For all of them...

They are on Wii. Core games don't sell on the Wii.

Your logic is flawed. All COD games on wii have sold a million, Resident Evil 4 sold a million, brawl has sold over 9 million, New super Mario Bros sold 13 million, Super Mario Galaxy sold over 8 million, Super Paper Mario sold over 2 million, Punch Out sold over a million, zelda sold over very well, Monster hunter 3 sold over a million in Japan and the only 3rd party to do so.

Face the facts fanboy. These wii games didn't because they either sucked, had no promotion, they carried the same name from a previous bad game, boring, short, and etc.

Of course all those games you listed sold well, they are well known franchises. The point is [core] new IP's don't sell well on Wii. Red Steel, No More Heroes, Madworld...are all new IP's to this gen and couldn't sell any copies.

The two main problems with these excuses:

1. A lot of games don't get much advertisement at all and are still successful (I've never seen an ad for any Game Party games, for instance).

2. Many of these are things that people would have to play the game first to know (or read reviews).

Would just like to point out that currently Dead Space Extraction is sitting at 6x the amount of sales as Sin and Punishment is. (240k vs. 40k)
Obviously once Sin and Punishment gets out of Japan that will change, but I doubt it will do much beyond 500k, making Dead Space actually fairly successful when compared fairly against a developer who is considered the best in the business at the genre.

1. I agree with you that the Wii does not have last gen graphics, but it sure as hell does not have next-gen graphics.. its only slightly stronger then the gamecube and Black on PS2 still looks better then any Wii game I have seen to date..

I'm sorry, I don't want to bash or anything but how long ago it was the last time you've seen Black??(I have it for Xbox) or what wii games have you seen this far??

Besides that, it's true 3rd party games generally don't sell well because most of em' suck

Red Steel 2 was the first decent game pulled out by ubisoft after 4years, it also has the same name of  lauch game that everyone bought and sucked to all....if you aspect to sell well in this way why don't publish Superman64 2?

Silent Hill, Muramasa are niche games they wouldn't have sold a lot anyway....

Madworld, a black/white game doesn't seem like the ideal way to attract consumers, also its not very good.

Rail shooters.....I need o say anything about them???

Monster Hunter 3 is probably the first really good 3rdparty game on wii by far, and its selling well.

I agree.

wich means: those games weren't nearly good enough to deserve blockbuster sales, seeing as the WIi audience isn't willing to take crap games.

or how should I say...games that do not perform their job wel.

I personally do enjoy certain games like NMH and RS2, BUT I do see where they are flawed.

They both do NOT deliver on wii sword fighting action

WSR is still the best game for that, sadly.....

Ok, now you keep on saying that these games are boring yet they got boring reviews, you gave some good points, but honestly.....graphics?? What kind of crazy person gets turned off from a Wii game because of graphics? The Wii isn't meant to display ultra amazing graphics.

I've only read through two and a bit pages of this thread before I got fed up. The difference between a title being a success or failure from the point of view of a publisher is that a title is successful if it's made a profit. It's as simple as that. A successful (ie profitable) title can sell 100,000 units or less if the budget for the title in question is small enough. For some strange reason a great deal of people that've not experienced working in the industry (I worked in the industry for 4 years as a tester working for Eidos until Summer 2008) can't get their heads around this fact, and for some reason get into their heads that if it hasn't sold 1m or more it's a failure. Nonsense.

Going by what the fellah from Namco Bandai said a while back, some PS360 titles need to sell over 500,000 to make a profit. Going by what the fellah from EA said, the cost of developing and publishing Wii titles is anywhere between a third or a quarter more cost effective than developing PS360 titles.

If you take those figures into account you'll find the following ercentage of titles on each platform have been profitable:

Wii games selling 300,000 or more - 246/612 = 40.1%

360 games selling 500,000 or more - 191/858 = 22.3%

PS3 games selling 500,000 or more - 141/528 = 26.7%

Obviously this is taking a fair few assumptions into account, but I don't think I'd be too far wrong if I said that over 50% of Wii titles are successful. They may not all be platinum tites, they may not all be aimed at the 'hardcore' demographic but they are successful.

What's also interesting is taking a look at the amount of platinum titles for the Wii - they're a mixture of different genres aimed at a mixture of different demographics. For my money the Wii is the best console out of the three this gen - it has something that'll appeal to everyone: hardcore games, casual games, puzzle games, survival horror games, party games, music games, action games, adventure games and Homebrew. Something for everyone, no matter how old they are or how long they've been gaming. That's why it's so successful, and why developing and publishing games for it is so successful.

Not every Wii game goes platinum, but the majority of Wii games released earn publishers a profit...and I think third parties are going to learn a valuable lesson from the success of Monster Hunter Tri now that a publisher has finally released a AAA quality game with a AAA quality marketing campaign.

If you worked for Eidos QA up to 2008, then you probably worked with someone I am working with now. Small world!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Red Steel 1 sold a million

The length of Madworld was what? 6 hours? That turned off a lot of core Wii gamers because it was not worth $50, especially the ones that I know

No More Heroes sold half a million, thats Suda51's highest selling game of all time. And honestly, it did not gain enough publicity. Heck, I didn't even know much about it. Also, it was censored in Europe and Australia.
