Best female singer, definitive poll

Madonna 16 19.28%

Mariah Carey 4 4.82%

Nana Mouskouri 3 3.61%

Whitney Houston 3 3.61%

Celine Dion 6 7.23%

Others 48 57.83%

Total:80

I voted for Madonna because she's the greatest entertainer of them all. I love her to death but I'm not delusional enough to think she's got the best voice out there, but when it comes to putting on a show, nobody comes close.

Also, she's got a 20+ year career, she reinvents herself for every album, she's made some timeless pop songs, not just dance tracks but great balads too.

I voted for Nana out of those...

My favorite:
Geike Arnaert

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

For me the best female singers are Chaka Khan and Mavis Staples but since they aren't mentioned and I don't wanna vote "other" I voted for my favourite artist instead: Madonna.

I like Sarah Brigthman and I think she is better than the ones listed there.

I use to think Sarah Brightman had the most awesomest voice ever back when I also thought Phantom of the Opera and Andrew Lloyd Webber were both the shit but as I listened to more and more and broadened my horizon more and more, Sarah Brightman just isn't that great.  I can't even listen to any of her recent stuff.

As for this poll, it's hard to say who is the best since there are so many different female vocalists that I like for many different reasons.  I can say the specific options given just plain suck.

Anyways, two that come up offf the top of my head

  1. Ella Fitzgerald - you can't not like her.  She's amazing and if you think otherwise you're just wrong.
  2. Lea Michelle - there are people better than her but as far as current female vocalists go, she's pretty awesome.

I would put Hayley Westenra on there since I love her to death but she really needs more vocal training in general.  She's great and I love her, but I can't call her the best femal singer sadly.

There is only one answer.

Inva Mula

Thread over. No human on earth sings better then her.

Not that it matter for this thread, but she is not bad to look at either....

What the hell was that at the end?  Was that really all her voice?  Incredible.

OT: I guess Aretha Franklin is the easy answer.  Here's another one I really like:

Chloe Agnew.

Chloe has an interesting and distinctive sound and I really like her, but I really like Hayley's Ave Maria better.  It's just the most beautiful version I can think of for that song:

And my favorite Chloe song has to be Sigma.  I really like her singing Pie Jesu, but I think I like her Sigma better (embedding is disabled for that video, just click the clink to hear it).

I vote for Geddy Lee.

You dick!

OT: Whitney Houston. Shame what's happened to her, but she was amazing in her day.

Well I'm not a big fan of most female singers, but when I hear a good female rocker voice then I know it haha. And for me there is only one right now:

Amy Lee (lead singer of Evanescence)

She pretty much defines rocker and has one of the best voices in all of music right now. Other than her, it is hard for me to really think of any others, that aren't pop singers (I'm sorry I just don't like pop music all that much). Lead singer of Flyleaf I think has a good voice but not up there with Amy Lee. Have to go back to Pat Benatar who just had an incredible voice.

Out of the choices you gave me, has to be Whitney Houston (but before she went crazy). Others really don't come close except maybe Celine Deon.

I like Amy Lee, I have a version of her singing My Immortal that's just her and her piano and it's really nice (I have no idea where I got it and I can't find it anywhere else) and I really like Hello.  If we're talking about rock chicks though, I would have to say the lead singer from Within Temptation with All I Need or Shirly Manson of Garbage with most anything she sings.

I voted for Mariah Carey. For me, she has the best female voice ever. She is like wind, fire, and water all packed up into one. Her voice is airy and powerful at the same time. Her immense lower register surpasses most males and is the best lower register in the whole industry. She can have so many textures and sounds.

She can be strong, thin, loud, powerful, quiet, airy, soulful, and many other things with ease.

She is also one of the only artists who can master any type of music. She has even done marching band music on an album. Just to name some: Jazz, Pop, RnB, Dance, Rock and many more.

Oh, and she writes all of her music.

Her best performance:

@Twesterm - OMG! I was all about Shirley Manson for about 5 years! I would kill to have Garbage back around.

If we're talking who has the strongest voice, this gal here

could rip the skin off of your face if you were in the same room as her. She's amazing! (It's Stephanie Block from Wicked by the way, great show!)

The best singer in the past 20 years by far. Just listen to those notes.
