Questions like this are far too open to interpretation to really be particularly meaningful. On many technical merits you could pick certain singers where as entertainers you would pick others; and as soulful songwriters you would probably choose a completely different group of singers. A singer who I think was (all around) pretty remarkable that people have forgotten since she went crazy is Lauren Hill; and it is unfortunate that her career was so short because she was certainly one of the more talented female artists in my lifetime.

My great-aunt and uncle used to live a few doors down from Whitney. They got to hear her domestic issues frequently, apparently Whitney is a real screamer.

Out of that list, Whitney Houston. Great voice and no one has come close to her singing the national anthem since 1991. I accidentally hit Celine Dion.

Well I'm not a big fan of most female singers, but when I hear a good female rocker voice then I know it haha. And for me there is only one right now:

Amy Lee (lead singer of Evanescence)

She pretty much defines rocker and has one of the best voices in all of music right now. Other than her, it is hard for me to really think of any others, that aren't pop singers (I'm sorry I just don't like pop music all that much). Lead singer of Flyleaf I think has a good voice but not up there with Amy Lee. Have to go back to Pat Benatar who just had an incredible voice.


Out of the choices you gave me, has to be Whitney Houston (but before she went crazy). Others really don't come close except maybe Celine Deon.

Out of those it's Whitney versus Mariah for me. Whitney wins for "The Greatest Love of All."

But with just singing... my favorite overall would probably be Bjork or Dusty Springfield.
