Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: New Bungie IP 'Halo on steroids'

Ok no problem, I'll edit that.

Around the Network

I haven't seen the word "PS3" or sony anywhere on the news about bungie.

For all you know, maybe they want to dev for the Wii or the DS or the freedom to dev for the PC as well as 360.
Problem with MS is that they were stuck with the Halo dev tag... and although it's fun, they probably wanted some variety.

I still think they signed their downfall (as a top games maker), as an exclusive publisher deal will prevent them from doing any more Halo... and getting a new big franchise will be pretty tough.

How pissed do you think Microsoft is now that Bungie will dev for PS3?

I can only dream of the damage control going on at M$ right now. We all know Acti are going to make Bun do PS3 games, how many PS3 or XB360 exclusives have Acti published this gen? I think its none. But to be fair if MS really wanted to keep Bun they could have done so easily, maybe MS felt like it was time to part.

I don't understand the "damage control" statement. Bungie has been independant since 2007, MS created 343 studios at least last year and told everyone that 343 was doing Halo from now on and we've known since last year that Bungie most likely won't be doing another Halo. "Damage Control" is done by a year. The only people I see freaking out about this are PS3 guys, which makes sense because they get to play a Bungie game without paying the "evil" MS any money, hooray for you.

Look at the post above you from a MS fan ("RIP Bungie"). A lot of 360 fans are mad because they know the next Bungie IP, potentially the real next "Halo", will be playable on PS3. This dev was 360 flagship, the main reason left to buy a 360 actually.

So it's definitely a bad news for MS, no way to minimize this, hence the damage control PR they released yesterday.

R.I.P Bungie.

I can feel and understand your pain as a MS / 360 fan. Maybe I would react the same way if Polyphony Digital was going multi, both are flaghsip devs for their console.

But I think there will be better times for the 360 for sure when Natal releases and after.

And maybe the team MS will recruit to take care of Halo name will be talented too. Who knows ?

Plus, future Bungie games will probably still be on 360 too.

Why did you do it Bungie :( I would rather if they remained exclusive with MS than sign with Activision :(

Yay, Sony still keeps its Uncharted, God of War, and Gran Turismo mega series.

And M$ has lost their biggest property, Bungie, and left with Halo Legend....

Ah haaaaaaa! Bungie is going to make the Halo Killer. It makes so much sense, they're the only ones who can kill their own beast.

Well, for me, I'm not mad - just disappointed. Bungie is one of my favorite developers, and 360 exclusives can be given a great degree of polish without an massive development time. Multiplatform titles take longer, and generally aren't as optimized. So instead of getting a new bungie game every 18-24 months, we'll either get a lower quality game, or a longer wait.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/38772/Bungie-unfazed-by-PS3-challenge

We put the question to the studio's community manager Brian Jarrard - will it not be a challenge moving to platforms like PS3?

"Oh, sure - we've been Xbox exclusive for a long time," he said. However he confidently added: "But it's something where we have some of the best engineering folks in the industry on board who are already thinking heard about how our new game universe might manifest itself over various devices."

thanks for the quote.

it does seem more likely then... yet they seem to be talking about using the new peripherials mostly.

I still see them unlikely to develop on PS3. However PS4 when it comes out, yes for sure.

Great news for Sony fans !

I can't wait to play Bungie next IP, this improved Halo, on PS3.

I hope they'll go PS3 exclusive one day too, it would allow them to use more of the PS3 power.

It's a sad day for MS though, since Bungie was the main developer they had to compete with the dozens of Sony studios.

LOL...Bungie stated they will keep making exclusives for Microsoft, but they will make multiplatform games with Sony. Activision has a pretty good relationship with Microsoft. Sony is just desperate to get a game almost as good as Halo and Bungie being with Activision is their closest chance to a non-exclusive top tank FPS.
