Agreed with OP 100% - There's not many RPG's that you can sink over 100 hours of pure fun & fantasy into one package

hell no,
the story-line is too generic
combat system fails because of the leveling
side-quest are boring dungeons of sameness and boringness
other than that, the setting, the music and the sense of freedom are still among the best
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect
Fable 2
Final Fantasy XIII
Those four games are better RPGs than Oblivion.
IMO Oblivion is the 5th best RPG this generation. Thieves guild quests stood out for me in Oblivion. Assassins guild, Mages guild guild, gladiator arena and Fighters guild were ok. Main story was boring. Lots of glitches, bugs and a lot of the levels were a cut and paste.
I prefer both Mass Effects and Fable II to Oblivion, and I'm a huge Oblivion fan, but I guess that's just me.
I personally love oblivion and really hope bethesda announce another elder scrolls game at E3. I really enjoy first person combat with medieval weapons but there simply isn't enough games that do it well.
My Eyes!!! The Goggles Do Nothing!!!
Easily the best rpg game of this generation!! Of course the fact that it was my first wrpg ever might have helped that!
never played Oblivion myself (my computer sucked at the time) but everyone I know who did play it said it was flawed and even more casualised than Morrowind so I never bothered to pick it up. and I am not going to now still got to finish Dragon age and the awesome hardcore WRPG Avernum 6 lol
