Forums - Gaming Discussion - Firm: Sony Brand Less Valuable than Microsoft, Cigarettes, Beer, Toothpaste

I cant think of any part of Sony that is doing well anymore, TV's, MP3's, Gaming, etc. They have lost a lot of shine.

Always remeber all statistics are a lie.

nintendo wasn't even on the list until last year, sony was gone last year but came back with a 30% increase this year (still lost ~13% over the last 4 years), apple quintupled their value in the last four years, amazon did basically the same in 3 years and blackberry even grows by a factor of 8.7 in that time.
nokia on the other hand... damn ;)
definitely interesting to look at, but those numbers can change so fast... its just a snapshot

Even with Xbox Live and a profitable Xbox I don't see Microsoft making 60% the amount of Nintendo. They just don't sell enough of either subscriptions or consoles.

Don't forget about the software.  Most wii titles are $50 while most 360 titles are $60.  The $10 difference adds up quickly.

I didn't forget about software.  Considering the amount of 1st party software Nintendo moves I still don't see them gaining 60% of that despite the $10 difference in the price of games.

It's true that Nintendo moves a lot of first party software but their third party software sales are weak when compared to the 360.  I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft sells twice as much or triple as much third party software as nintendo.

Can I get a link on that statement.  I thought the last time there was Wii doesn't move 3rd party thread that it wasn't true, that in fact they moved more of 3rd party software as well.

Does this surprise anyone? No matter what the guy said, many would not agree with him.

Sony guys... Stop getting so pissed over things that don't concern you. >.> I mean really like someone said earlier this is just a snap shot and it changes all the time. I'm sure that the value of the ps3 got higher because of the beginning of this year with the release of God of War and heavy rain and others. So stop getting all pissed over this, unless you work for Sony :p

The first link I posted was the last time someone took the time to break software up in to first and third party.  It shows the tie ratios and it was at the end of 2008.  It clearly shows the 360 leading.  The second link I showed comes from a recent forum here on vgchartz.  Someone looked at the top 50 titles on the 360 and the top 50 on the wii and ps3.  They broke it down by first party and third party.  The last link I listed shows that the first party nintendo titles made up nearly 50% of nintendo's revenue.  Nintendo titles also sell for a much higher price than third party titles which proves that third party developers are having trouble making as much money on the wii as nintendo does with there games since they have to slash the price much faster.  The same link shows that third party and first party titles are closer to being even on the ds price wise which suggests that third parties are having a better time selling and don't have to slash prices as fast.

But my question to you is if third parties don't have trouble selling on the wii then why are major publishers like capcom and sega voicing concerns?

Well, considering he uses math and extraploation to determine his results, and most of those who would disagree with him, based their disagreements on either bias, self sustaining logic, or ill-concieved misconceptions, I'd say that I for one, take his side.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

at least they don't think playstation 3 is doomed, only that it has a small future
