I enjoy our Moderation team, and I think they do a great job at keeping VGChartz a civil place for chatting about our favorite hobbies. I've never had an issue with the mod team, and I've been here for a while (2 years already? Sheesh. ) Keep it up guys and gals.

And if you guys have any issue with the Mod/Contributor teams, PM Naz about it. That's what he's here for. ^_^

I was a pretty active poster on this site once, however, I was reprimanded for something that kind of pushed me away from the site. Especially since the person who reported me is one of the most aggressive people on this site, but he is a contributer and gets away with it. The bias ticked me off and now I'm not on here very much.

But you guys are probably better off not having to deal with me as much anyway :)

I am a fan of strict moderation. Forums with high moderation tend to produce a much better level of conversation and substance( see Elitist Jerks, etc). Forums without moderation tend to turn into sewer pools of fanbois posting junk.

haha i like it, its what separates us from youtube

Elitist Jerks is good because it has a very narrow focus: exploring the mechanics of World of Warcraft raiding, full stop.

The VGChartz forums have no such focus. People come here to discuss anything video-game-related. All that having harsh, arbitrary moderation does is stifle legitimate debate.

There were tons of raiding sites when WoW went up. Most went down in flames due to the X class is OP & needs nerfs threads / responses. I can see your point about narrow focus thou. Having a narrow focus does define a website. However, in any gaming environment you will see alot of posters that just want to spout off.

There have been other methods that have keep conversation levels up as well. Exclusive memberships have worked (Arena Junkies) in keeping a decent conversation level. Gamasultra also has responsibility towards the poster and has keep their forums pretty usable. I do not see either method working for VGChartz thou.

VGChartz has pretty good forums atm. This is one of the few gaming websites that I willing to read. Therefore, I think the mods are doing a pretty good job.

What I'm not happy about the moderation system is that Mods acts like if they were superior than you. They decide whenever the conversation ends, they are very strict in their PM and sometimes too sensible.

I've almost been banned for calling someone a troller - he actually trolled a lot in the Galaxy 2 first review thread - and that shocked me.

I voted "too scared to comment so... voting and leaving", but in all seriousness, I agree with xxmob above. The only way to stop flamebaiting and personal attacks is to make it abundantly clear that neither behavior will be tolerated in any way, shape, or form. Especially on a site that is basically geared toward giving fanboys hard evidence to support their claims. *hides from ioi*

Now I obviously can't see what's going on behind the scenes, I have never been "moderated", and I have no way to know if people are being unjustly banned. But the fact remains that the level of conversation on this site is far, FAR more mature than that on literally any forum I have ever visited

Considering this site's content (and truly meaning no offense to ioi and the staff), achieving such a mature level of discourse is a monumental achievement IMHO.

You didn't just call someone a troll, you called them a troll several times and in a separate reply you continued to call them a newb to the forums and a PS3 lover/fanboy instead of just reporting them and letting it go, I mean why feed a troll, they just come back for more..

It's funny how people always have their one-sided way to how things occur, and I mean everyone not just the quoted.

Looking at peoples MOD history and reading their replies on why they do not like the MOD system is just simply hilarious.

I also see ALLOT of people on here that have Reported other people to have them banned or warned, but yet don't like the MOD system..

I've been apart of 100's of gaming sites ever since the mid 90's, I also have been a mod on many sites, I can safely say we handle things the same way as other sites.

If you study the forum rules you should not have a problem on this site.
