Sorry, I just hate it when DJs change songs and especially songs which I love. So whether or not Justice for example is good for a DJ hes still bad in my eyes. The best DJs are probably music producers really, they get all my lovin'. Outside of the club scene the original mixes 99% of the time are better.

Well, plenty of DJs still do original mixes. Let me point you to a good one.

I'll have to listen to it later. My dog is with me and she hates that kind of music.

Your dog has good taste. You should buy her a pair of Kantie Panties, only $26.99 (special friends-of-sheep rate)

I have to decline as she's a true feminist. She doesn't shave her legs, back, face, shes a true bitch and she doesn't wear 'feminine' products, especially those designed by men!

@tarheel91

Thank you for posting that! I'd never heard them before.. good stuff.

Uhmmm....
Justice is not a DJ, but a band, just like Daft Punk (;

Every DJ remix I have ever heard sucks. I find it difficult to take any DJ at all that seriously. Apart from making them more club friendly, DJs always ruin music when they adjust it.

Are you including stuff like this when you say remixes?  If so, I have to disagree:

OT: I never thought of Lady Gaga's stuff as dance music.  Way too poppy.  If that's dance music, it was made mainstream well before Lady Gaga.

Justice is just higher quality crap... DJ FTL.

I respectfully disagree.  Their original stuff is amazing, and their remixes frequently improve upon the original songs.

Check out this Justin Timberlake song they did.  It blows away the original (which wasn't too bad to start with):

You're not going to tell me that Daft Punk is crap as well, are you?

You realize Daft Punk and Justice make their own stuff, right?  So they get all your loving, but you think they're junk at the same time.  Also, do you realize how many music producers frequently sample other pieces of music?  Taking something and making it your own isn't bad.  I agree weak remixes are pretty boring and aren't likely to surpass the original, but when you take something, transform it, and make something entirely new out of it, I think that's very respectable.

This next one's going to mind fuck you, considering your outlook on creating vs. transforming music (I don't see the two as so different, personally).  This is Justce's remix of Justice's OWN SONG (which is an homage to Michael Jackson):

Original:

To me it sounds like your issue has more to do with your inability to accept change to something you like than any real quality issue with remixes.

Music producers are to DJs what employed actresses are to Waitresses/Actresses. Most of the work produced by DJs are roughly the equivalent of a sledgehammer to a nail, they completely overdo it and lack subtlety. Aside from the odd person who likes their independance, most good DJs are likely poached by the record labels to create their music. Effectively a DJ is an aspiring music producer who hasn't had their big break yet, hence the reason why they pail in comparison to music producers.

I consider Daft Punk just two DJs. Hardly a band.

What exactly earns the tag of band? Original music?

Err, no.  Again, you haven't even addressed the few groups I introduced early on in this thread.  Daft Punk, Justice, and Chemical Brothers are a few of the biggest musical groups on the planet (I'd guess they're all in the top 100 in terms of international recognition, although I'm pulling it out of my ass).  All of them are basically DJs.  All of them are far more recognized and well-recieved critically than any music producer.  It's because their music is far more sophisticated than the stuff coming from your beloved music producers.

I really don't think artists with youtube videos with 40mil+ views or that can draw this kind of crowd are waiting for "their big break" (by the way, I'm assuming you haven't listened to a single video I've posted, but I encourage you to, as they're pretty central to my argument):

A lot of the really good electronic dance bands these days are DJ's as well to some degree. James Murphy, Hot Chip, Justice and Daft Punk are all examples

MY ASS

it is because of Getta (and others DJ ofc) that dance music is famous

without Getta , no commercial product like Gaga or Black Eyed Peas dance album !

Well I struggle to call Lady Gaga electronic dance music but if you insist on comparison Play by Moby was both bigger than The Fame and released ten years earlier. His music was undeniably in the mainstream.

so true
