Forums - Nintendo Discussion - You know what I think really sucks about handheld rpgs in this day and age?

The SUPER AMAZING AWESOME stuff is always near the end!

Like, holy crap, I don't expect it to all be thrown in the beginning all at once but the pacing in some games (which I do love) just take a really long time to get into. And, imo, it's too long in most instances.

TWEWY, Devil Survivor, DQ4, KH 358/2, and heck, even Pokemon Platinum.

It's like. come on already, get with the program! Dx

Agree/disagree?

I mean, it's fine if people disagree because they like taking their time with a story but man, It seems like all games I play are doing it.

Admittedly, a remake like DQ4 shouldn't really be considered but I felt it was necessary to point out the pattern.

Even the PSP did this with games like Crisis Core or Tales of the world: RM.

Around the Network

Not sure why this was created in the Nintendo discussion but oh well.

I'm actually going to have to agree with this, but not with just RPG's in particular, more Adventure/Action games as well. My experience with Bayonetta is a prime example: Though I enjoyed the game throughout, I was completely blown away the Father Balder battle on the second last chapter. Like oh my god, did the music have to be THAT incredible, and did the battle have to be that over-the-top?
Another good example is Zelda: Spirit Tracks: I'd accepted the train early on in the game but I certainly wasn't prepared for the task within Dark Realm at the end of the game or the Malladus battle. I mean, for crying out loud, could that have been any more awesome? And some people dare suggest Zelda is some form of decline!? LOL!

I'm all for rewarding players for their time and patience with brilliant moments towards the games climax, but sometimes the end parts are just a bit too much to handle all at once. :P

Not sure I can agree with TWEWY being up there though, that game was just pure awesome from start to finish.

How technical is your game?

Well, most handheld games that I've played were on my DS so since I'm speaking from experience on those in particular, I thought it would only be fair to have the discussion on the Nintendo forum. xD

I've played relatively few PSP games by comparison.

You should try Infinite Space

I feel like a lot of RPG's these days on any platform take too long to get into. But most of the time it's worth the effort. Sure you deal with the mundane stuff up front, but as long as the game uses that to color the characters or expand upon the universe, I don't mind it.
