Forums - Microsoft Discussion - MS: Halo Reach beta will revive ODST sales

Halo 3: ODST sales will be “reinvigorated” thanks to Reach beta, says Microsoft

Microsoft’s Stephen McGill has said that the Halo: Reach beta will breathe new life into sales of Halo 3: ODST, with a “ton of Halo gamers” expected to buy the game for the first time.

“Naturally, the demand for Halo 3: ODST will be reinvigorated as soon as the public Beta kicks off,” the director of Xbox and Entertainment in the UK told CVG.

“We know a lot of our Halo community have the game and are eagerly awaiting May 3rd, but there are also a ton of Halo gamers who know and love the Halo universe, yet didn’t try Halo 3: ODST.”

A price-drop for the most recent Bungie shooter came in to play during the weekend, with Microsoft promising it will be “a great way” to play both Reach and ODST.

“Now at £24.99 ERP, we’re offering a great way for players to experience both ODST and the Halo: Reach Beta,” added McGill.

Bungie’s previously stated it expects up to 3 million people to be playing the Reach multiplayer beta when it goes live next Monday. Get our most recent impressions of the taster here.

The game itself launches this fall for Xbox 360.

This is expected whenever a new game or beta in a series gets released it almost always seems to give a boost to the previously released game.

On one hand I expect this to have a lot of used copies in the shops, but then on the other, I expect a lot of people to have kept their copy, so we'll wait and see!!

i'll be picking up ODST in the next few weeks mainly because I refused to pay the joke of a price (£44.99) on release for what was basically an expansion pack.

its £29.99 now so its worth grabbing before the price spikes.

TBH alot of people do this and either by the reduced price 6 months on or get it pre-owned and the fact the game was a space filler and reach was hot on its tail kept the sales free since it will be out date when reach is out

Am I still in the wrong for thinking this "expansion" can do near 7+ million before the 360 is dead? You got a Halo Reach beta invite that will last a few weeks, and a pack in with Elites thru the Summer or possibly longer in the US (and other countries).

It's just that simple.

ODST is my favorite Halo campaign, so I hope it sells more. It should, crackdown did before the Halo 3 beta

I expect it to sell all the used copies first, as it will mostly be people who have already bought and traded ODST in who repurchase it for the beta.

A similar thing happened when ME2 came out. Couldn't find a cheap used copy anywhere.

Game have dropped it to £19
didn't take long for the "expansion pack" nonsence to come up.

wow this expensive in UK ?

I thought it was cheaper all over Europe. Guess only in the € countries then.

Actually the price is now £15 and not £29.99.
