The Wii was at 70M world wide way back 2 years ago.

of course not, but the fact remains the Wii still had a much larger install base than either the PS3 or 360 2 years ago, so OP comment still remains true even if it could have been worded better.

At the end of the day, each console targets a certain demographic, the Wii it's Casuals >> core, and the HD twins it's CORE >> casuals, it's just how things are this generation.

Actually the PS3 has a bigger userbase now then the Wii did when NMH released.

Almost twice as high infact!

However, I don't think people are really reading what we say :P

The 360 version did better too, with a userbase of just over a million. How do you explain that?

The PS3 version is censored, just like the original was in Japan.  The 360 version is uncensored, like the original was in North America.  The whole point of the game is overdoing violence in a really comical way to make fun of modern games.  Taking the blood out ruins it.  It's like taking all the blood out of a Monty Python sketch.  Anyway, this is a really nerdy game with a very small but hardcore following.  They all know to get the uncensored version.

Yeah and like I said, really nerdy games with a very small but hardcore following tend to do well on the Xbox 360 (provided that it's a 360 exclusive or the 360 version is superior). The Xbox 360 has it's following with hardcore Japanese otakus. That's why the sales on the 360 were so good. In terms of HD market share, PS3 beats out the 360 4:1. Meaning the 360 only has 20% HD console market share in Japan. But for a game like No More Heroes, where the install base is more hardcore, the Xbox 360 adoption rate is much higher (more like 50% of the HD audience).

Both GAMES bombed badly.

But why did it take 2 years for Nintendo fans to say it?

It's not an exclusive anymore, and it was outsold by those ports.

This thread has become a sewer for bad arguments and illogical statements and unfortunately it started with the first post. And I wont' say both sides aren't doing it because they both are doing it. If anyone had actually read my post maybe they would have seen that there isn't much you can get out of this anyways. And surely extrapolating this instance to determine gamers' buying habits in Japan or demographics is well one of the most illogical things I've ever heard.

As Seece stated, which may have been the best post I came across, all you can do is look at what the facts show and THAT'S IT. You can't get anything out of this because one thing doesn't mean the world. Especially for things that are relatively close to each other. I'd swear the arguments in here are so damning that if someone had shown that 2 + 2=5 they would throw out everything they knew about the actual answer.

NOT EVERYTHING that comes in the way of numbers can mean anything to explain something. And sure is hell never means it can explain everything. I think the best we can get out of this is maybe the NMH brand is getting "slightly" more recognized in Japan and "potentially" due to some demographic differences in Japan between the 3 systems (although the ones people are saying it is here actually doesn't work with the numbers they are using). Anything else people are saying is either based on assumption, building a mountain out of a hill, or just damage control.

Hahahahaha first of all, the game didn't bomb on the wii... talking about total sales. That's what wii users have been saying.

It was outsold by the ports? Really??? .01 > .48?? hahahahaha

It's nice to see someone trying to bring sense into this thread...

A 3K difference isn't enough to say "It would to better on HD consoles"

This game was a japanese flop on the Wii with, and a much higher flop on HD consoles, because of higher development costs.

The Wii version was more profitable despite lower sales.

I think now Grasshopper (?) can see that the HD consoles are not a viable platform to have a profitable game on like No More Heroes.

At least in Japan.

But it's a port...the developement is not that much. It's surely a lot less than the Wii one.

Ports cost a lot more to make than they appear. Since all three systems operate under different hardware (Not just Wii and HD systems; all three of them), you can't just take the code from one version and apply it to another. Unless the hardware is similar, the game has to be essentially rebuilt from the ground up: Textures, controls, cutscenes, gameplay, everything. The fact that they upscaled the graphics to fit HD standards and added new character models for the very sweet mode also means more work and money. The only difference here is that you already have a final product to compare to, which is subdued in this case by the move to HD.

As for the rest of this topic: Please refer to Zucas' post.

Christ people, the game BOMBED.. on ALL platforms. Just leave it at that. The userbase has nothing, I repeat, NOTHING to do with the game bombing. The game itself is the reason the game bombed.

I just love people actually bragging that an extra 3k of sales makes any significant difference. Either the game did well on all 3 platform or it bombed on all 3 platforms. But you cannot possibly claim with a straight face that somehow the Wii version bombed while the HD versions did not.. It seems the HD fanboys are trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Let's just say NMH on the 360 is one of the best selling bomb in Japan.

Well the 360 itself is a bomb in Japan, but yeah if we're looking at relative sales, the 360 version did by far the best. When your console only has a userbase of just over 1 million in Japan, suddenly 14k doesn't look so bad.

The PS3 version actually did the worst, having a far bigger userbase than the 360, and bigger than even the Wii's userbase at the time, yet only sold 3k greater than the Wii version, and the same as the 360 version.

So in terms of sucess for NMH, it would be 360 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wii>>>>>PS3.

But the HD consoles are similar enough to easily share much of the same resources. Hence, why they share a majority of thier library and they remain very much the same on both consoles. NMH HD basically is a single project sharing sales between two consoles.

The Wii on the other differs so greatly that it requires games specifically tailored for it. And often it just shared resources with the PS2.
