Forums - Gaming Discussion - No More Heroes on HD consoles has pretty good first week in Japan

@ pugg

So that makes it like s double port. Porting it to higher resolutions and stuff, and doing 2 different versions of it for the 2 consoles.

This is not a regular port as people is used to say.

A 3K difference isn't enough to say "It would to better on HD consoles"

This game was a japanese flop on the Wii with, and a much higher flop on HD consoles, because of higher development costs.

The Wii version was more profitable despite lower sales.

I think now Grasshopper (?) can see that the HD consoles are not a viable platform to have a profitable game on like No More Heroes.

At least in Japan.

But it's a port...the developement is not that much. It's surely a lot less than the Wii one.

I'm guessing he means if NMH was originally built for the PS3/360 from the ground up.

If that was the case, the extra 3k individually/28k combined would not be viable, due to the extra costs associated with making games for those consoles.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Christ people, the game BOMBED.. on ALL platforms. Just leave it at that. The userbase has nothing, I repeat, NOTHING to do with the game bombing. The game itself is the reason the game bombed.

I just love people actually bragging that an extra 3k of sales makes any significant difference. Either the game did well on all 3 platform or it bombed on all 3 platforms. But you cannot possibly claim with a straight face that somehow the Wii version bombed while the HD versions did not.. It seems the HD fanboys are trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Let's just say NMH on the 360 is one of the best selling bomb in Japan.

Well the 360 itself is a bomb in Japan, but yeah if we're looking at relative sales, the 360 version did by far the best. When your console only has a userbase of just over 1 million in Japan, suddenly 14k doesn't look so bad.

The PS3 version actually did the worst, having a far bigger userbase than the 360, and bigger than even the Wii's userbase at the time, yet only sold 3k greater than the Wii version, and the same as the 360 version.

So in terms of sucess for NMH, it would be 360 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wii>>>>>PS3.

Actually 360 >>>>>>>> PS3/Wii

Or, to be more specific

PS3 - 14674 divided by 5099825 = 0.00287
Wii - 11703 divided by 4058642 = 0.00288
360 - 14,048 divided by 1284278 = 0.010966

The game bombed, across all systems, statiscally though the Wii beat the PS3, but it's the definition of "well within error"

Considering the game was a 3 year old port AND multiplat to the 360, the PS3 version did better than the Wii.

Though it really isn't worth defending to be honest ....

I'm not sure what you're implying. They've cleaned up the visuals, but its ultimately the same game and using much of the original code and resources.

I dont think the game was made by the same company that made the original. Suda said so himself that he had nothing to do with this port. And it isnt that easy to just port a Wii game. The environments are so incredibly different its rediculous.

The game bombed across the board though, No doubt on that. I'm interested in the long term sales personally. And does anyone know if this title retailed for full price on the HD twins? That can have alot to do with it also

It was developed by Feelplus. A company basically created to work on Xbox 360 projects.

Even though it's already been beaten to death ad nauseam; these first week sales are for a port of a two year old Wii game.

How is this even a legit comparison?

We now have people implying that the combined cost of porting the games to the 360 and PS3 platforms is somehow on par with or even greater than the original cost of development which by convoluted logic means that the original has been a greater commercial success (or less of a commercial failure, depending on opinion) based on first week sales?

NMH went on to sell about 500k units total, factoring in for some pretty heavy discounting on the majority of those sales. As someone who actually paid full price for the game shortly after it was released, I tend to notice these things.

By the numbers alone, all opinions aside, based on opening week sales, the game appears as though it was best tailored for the small but core audience in Japan that bought the Xbox 360.

Big surprise? Not really.

What sort of spin is this?  The visuals are barely different and there would have been no extra costs from character design, world design, audio, story and amjlllion other things because they were all done for the Wii.  I doubt the cost of both HD ports combined surpassed the cost of the Wii version.

Actually, they redubbed everything in Japanese (ie: additional audio).  Also, this isn't just an upscaled portjob, characters were actually remodeled and everything was retextured.  Art assets are basically the biggest expense for modern game development, and while I doubt feelplus broke the bank on this one, 20k (Denegeki) to 28k (Famitsu) 1st week is probably well below what Marvelous had budgeted for...

When a port of a 2 year old game sells better than the original did, that means something. I won't venture to say what it means, but generally speaking, that's not normal.

Indeed!

[PS2] Monster Hunter G (Capcom) 232,239

[Wii] Monster Hunter G (Capcom) 236,020

...clearly, this must mean something!

Monster Hunter IS better suited for the Wii market.

By the same assessment, games like NMH are better suited for the PS3 and Xbox 360, without even lumping both platforms together and claiming it sold over 2X as much for a 2+ year old game.

Isn't this what most people have been saying here?

At least those who aren't trying to shift the argument to claim that a couple of ports cost more than the original game, making the original a better commercial success, making it better suited for the Wii platform?
