http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game As some have said, it is in the genre. |
Yet if you folow the links to Uncharted it calls it a action adventure. Even the great all knowing wiki does not know heh also on the side of this page it says Action adventure Third person shooter, Platformer. I guess it is mostly called action adventure with the other two as sub genres? Who knows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted:_Drakes_Fortune
It is "almost"safe to assume almost any game has platforming elements anymore. But, it depends on what some people mean when they say Platformers if it fits into their idea of it I suppose. For me this is games like
Sly Cooper
Crash Bandicoot
Mario
Kirby
Megaman
Sonic
and so on
Then again it doesnt really matter if somone likes the game they like the game no matter the genre.
its an action adventure not a platformer , even if it had elements of platforming, like Tomb Raider its an action adventure.
- Wasteland - The Mission.
Honestly If I was a Sony fan, I wouldn't want Uncharted to be the shining example of a platformer. The game as a whole is great. The platforming parts, not so much. If you are going to argue over who makes the best platformers then we should be focusing on the platformer elements.
When you hit a button and sometimes Drake decides to take superhuman leaps, then other times randomly decides he would rather bunny hop to his death, then you have a problem with the platforming. The vines suck too. You are swinging full speed ahead and hit the jump button, but ya better watch out, cause if you don't hit it at the perfect moment (that doesn't make sense) you stop and drop straight to your doom. I can't count the number of times I got frustrated with Uncharted because Drake wouldn't jump far when I told him too.
Ubisoft made a better platformer in Prince of Persia, than Sony did in Uncharted. If we are going to insist that Uncharted is a platformer than it might just bump Ubisoft over Sony.
Using wikipedia as a source? Oh come on now....

Sorry but Sony is no where near as Nintendo is in the platform genre. Also, there are more companies that i would choose before choosing Sony (in that genre)
You can see this as my opinion.... but I'm telling nothing but the truth here |
dually noted. i am a fan of all platformers so for me this thread is gold. its my second biggest genre!
is shank a platformer or a side scroller? (love that game)

But Tomb Raider is also mentioned as a platformer. |
first time I've heard of it.
In such case, 3D Prince of Persia games are all platformers. They have more platform elements than either Uncharted or Tomb Raider series.
If we can cross refence action adventure games and platformer as "Platform-Adventure" games, Mario/Sonic/Banjo/Kirby/DK/MM can all be qualifies as "Platform-Adventure" games and they could be called action adventure games as well.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
