Forums - Sony Discussion - Will the PS3 finally get the 360's lead under 5 million soon?

The PS3 has the 360's lead down to 5.36 million. The last time when the PS3 cut the 360's lead this small which was a couple of months ago and it looked like the PS3 was finally going to cut the 360's lead to under 5 million units it turned out that adjustments had to be made which pushed the PS3 back out to the 6 million margin. So do you think the PS3 will finally cut the 360's lead under 5 million soon or do you think it will fail to do so once again?

I think it will get there, unless Natal turns things wildly. 360 is now losing ground in Others too, while NA has been moving on a par recently.

I know a few people on this site that will touch themselves when the elad gets to under 5 million...

I think MS knows that their entire company is in jeopardy if 360s lead shrinks to under 5 million so they wont let that happen. We will see free xbox 360's when you buy Xbox live points... Mark my words.

With Move and 3D gaming in the works, I can't see how the PS3 won't.

You should really reading this before hyping PS3 3D again.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalf...-ps3-3d-article

Summary:

- Games already released will have their resolution and frame rate halved in order to work with 3D. Howmany 1080p, 60 hz games are out on PS3?

- Or games will need to have features like split screen thrown out and be heavily optimized (motostorm demo)

- This optimization will have to be done by the developer. Howmany developers are going to pour money in to a closed game for 3D optimizing?

In any case, 3D gaming is going to be quite a niche gaming experience to make any market impact. There just won't be many games supporting it...

They have to do it before Natal comes out. Microsoft looks really strong this holiday.

I don't think MS gives a sh%t if when all is said and done they finish this gen in "3rd" place by a some few millions (and this gen doesn't end when a new product is released, this gen ends when a new product TAKES LEADERSHIP IN SALES, that's how I see because that's WHAT MATTERS). Microsoft already accomplished a lot this gen, finishing "2nd" in WORLDWIDE installed base numbers is just a plus. It's almost a given they will finish 2nd in USA-EU sales, and that matters to them a lot more than looking a the WW picture where Japan is just a tiny market (for MS).

Lets wait until the financial reports and the gap might be adjusted to below 5 million.

Link doesn't work.

I've heard those criticisms before, but considering the games that are going to be 3D at release (WipeoutHD and Motorstorm: PR), those games never took advantage of the SPU's in the first place, or at least not nearly as much as Uncharted 2 etc. I'd like to wait and see how the 3d process works before presuming it's just having to render the image twice - surely there's a more efficient way?

As for whether it is a console seller or not, it's something the 360 and wii do not have and so certianly an advantage in tht way. Sure, you need a 3D ready TV, but I do know a fair few people with 200Hz TV's, and I'm sure it will help sell at least a few consoles in the long run.

Plus 3D bluray. Now that'll really be a big advantage over the competition.

give it one month.
