What I don't understand is that 10 years ago when Sydney hosted the Olympic games - the Australian dollar was about 0.55USD, recommended retail price (RRP) for videogames was $100. Today in 2010 the Australian dollar is about 0.94USD games still retail for $100. Games have had absolutely no roll-back on prices why is this?

Your dollar has just gained ground on the American dollar, in terms of world currency it probably is about the same as it was back then.  As we were in the same boat our dollar was about .65 to the american dollar and now we are at or about on par with them.  and an Australian dollar is worth about 0.94 cents Canadian as well.

Though we have seen about a $5-$10 drop on our games :)

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

If people are used to spending $100 per game then why reduce it?

Anyway, it's not as bad as some people make it out be

- games typically sell for $88-$90 at retailers such as big w, target, k-mart, and jb hi fi.

- For the ps3, you can import games from playasia very cheaply --> basically games cost $54-$65 if you import from there although you need to wait about 1 week for the game to arrive.

- Sales: BFBC2 was $55 at eb games last week. Many games go on sale after a few months and reduce the cost to around $69-$79 (that eb games sale was an exception)

- I know ps3 games go platinum more quickly than they do in America, and they are typically cheaper than the RRP of $50 (typically you can get a platinum game for $34-$40.

Basically, the cost of games isn't so bad if you know where to shop and be patient.

Also, most wii games are cheaper than PS3/360 games.

Yeah, it seems like recently lots of retailers are selling the games a lot cheaper. not sure if this is because the AUD is going up again, but i've seen lots of new release games for heaps cheap.
eg, i got heavy rain day one for $75 at kmart i think. and lots of others are released at $80 or $90

I will never buy a game for $100 in Australia, most the time a new release will cost like $79 or $89 at JB. Only time I would even step into EB Games to buy something is when they have a sale. If you know where to buy your games, then its not that bad.

With the exception of 1st party Nintendo games, if you spend more than $50 AU on any game you are doing it wrong
