Forums - Sony Discussion - How important is Final Fantasy XIV?

I'm wondering how much impact do you think it will actually have? I'm talking about the PS3 version obviously

How much do you think it going to sell? can it a be a system seller in Japan like a regular Final Fantasy game?

It's going to be okay, but the PC version will sell more in America. In Japan, more people will buy the PS3 version because they usually don't have high end machines.

This game is as important as Final Fantasy XI was.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Can't wait. It is going to be awesome. Also it will be key for Square-Enix as FFXI has generated more money than all the other Final Fantasy games. and XIV will be another great source of income.

FFVIX is about as important as Aion, Warhammer Online and Star Trek: Online. In other words, its just another in a long line of similar MMORPGs made to just try to take its own small piece of the overcrowded MMO pie for a time until it stops making money.

Based on the Final Fantasy name, hte previous titles established core fanbase and the high graphical output of the game, it'll probably last longer than most MMOs. However, will it 'impact' the market? Not really. If anything, it'll be labeled as just another peg on the WoW ladder.

The only MMO that really looks like it'll have any chance to go up against WoW anytime soon is Star Wars: The Old Republic. And in Asia, POSSIBLY the Dragon Ball MMO, but they have been working on that for almost 6 years and still aren't releasing it, so it might as well be the 'Duke Nukem Forever' of the MMO world.

I think Square Knows this (except for there is wada :P) but a small chunk out of the MMO pie based on just the FF name, makes more profits than any ot the other non online FF numbered onces. and I actually liked 11 for a month... i liked WOW for like 1.5 months, I don't like MMO's I decided after that

The problem with WoW is that it is higher than everquest (which still isn't dead yes?) and Star Craft... So I don't see anything killing wow, because people are invested in their level 10000 charcters and stuff

I don't the Star Wars: The Old Republic. I am excited about this game. But They said it has basically 6 stories as long as Kotor. With certain missions where your just buy yourself. Which seems like a heavy single playered Story based MMO. Which is why I'm excited for for KOTOR, I just don't think it's the one to knock WoW off the rock

personally don't give a shit about MMO these days since my last one was WoW, and nothing tops WoW atm, and I don't expect FF14 to either, since before WoW, I played FF11.

I don't think that is quite the case, there is a big market for zombie PC's in Japan, but I think that they will buy the PS3 version because it is Final Fantasy and they associate the two brands with one another.

The PC version is definately more atune to the west!

Well people love to tell me that FFXI isn't a real Final Fantasy and isn't important in the least but since Final Fantasy IV is supposedly a PS3 console exclusive at the moment it's going to be uber important and a true Final Fantasy.

Personally, I think it will be about as important as FFXI (which don't get me wrong, I love FFXI to death, it's just not important).

Funny how the non-true Final Fantasy has made more $$$ than all the other FF games.
