Forums - General Discussion - Blues Appreciation Thread

A recent thread on classical music gave me the idea to see how many people love the blues here on VGC as well.

The concept is simple post your blues favorites, I'll start it:

First one most will know from GH:

A pair of classics:

And a 'duet' by old and new blues artists:

Alright, your turn....

PS - If you don't know blues songs but like what you hear, browse youtube and just post some of the good ones you find along the way

This is way different than most of the stuff in the OP, but I loved the blues pieces in Cowboy Bebop:

Haha i couldn't stand listening to john mayer after B.B. his phrasing is awful. He needs to shut the hell up. Oftentimes, silence speaks way more than spitting a bunch of notes.

@tarheel,

The first two are definitely blues, the third I'm not so sure about but I liked them all anyways so I can't complain. Actually I think of the three I liked the third one the most lol...

@Rath,

Based on the EC vid I'd say you're you looking forward to Crossroads this year, yes? I thought about going but it's kinda bad timing for me =/

@Avalach,

A little more raw than I like but still good.

As for Mayer..uhm yeah...he's really not my favorite either. The video with him and B.B. I posted I kinda think B.B. puts him to shame in just about every way possible. In a lot of ways Mayer's style comes off as rigid and overly technical while B.B.'s just sort of oozes soul. Hard to describe, and certainly a bit subjective, but the juxtaposition of the two really doesn't do Mayer any favors imo.

edit: And to keep things going:

Original and cover, I love them both.

I like most of it being that I'm from Chicago.

B.B. King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, and all of that stuff is great.

Unfortunately B.B. King must be senile if he is now performing live with John Mayer.

Mmmm Blue...

I'm a big fan of Delta Blues, Specifically Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Fred Mcdowell, etc. Chicago Blues is alright, I prefer acoustic though.
