Forums - Sales Discussion - Are Blu-Ray movies still a major selling point for the PS3?

Yes ofcourse.

Think about it, a buyer on the market is looking for a games console, but they're also into the home cinema scene, they see the 360 and PS3 side-by-side, they look at the information of them, find that they can watch bluray films too, they can stream films directly from their PC to their TV wirelessly using it, and even use the online features for one thing or another. Actually, everything I've said there is the reason my dad bought a second PS3 for himself, lol...

I think in terms of value for money, as a multimedia device, the PS3 is up there, high in the market, since, well, as the US advertisement says, "It only does everything", lol.

i don't need to say "Yes" everyone already said it

Yes it is and it will be even bigger when everyone who bought an impulse, cheap blu ray player has to buy a new one to play 3D blu rays and people with ps3's just need to download an update.

The Blu-Ray argument is not so big anymore because of the price of Stand-Alone-Players. But people who informs themselves will recognise that the PS3 is a perfekt BD-Player, because the Updates are easy to install and the 3D argument is coming up too.

To sum it up: BDs are still an important main pillar for the PS3 but it has no longer the effect from back then.

It's a selling point in terms of value for money and a future proof Blu-Ray player with 3D capability. If someone wants a blu-Ray player and they play some games, they might get one and vice-versa.

Yes it is, when I think of buying a second console, the decision becomes harder because the Xbox360 has more games that I like, but the PS3 can also play Blu-ray.

Yup, it still is.

                                       That's Gordon Freeman in "Real-Life"

For a gaming standpoint definitely or to those that want the best bang for their buck.

Not so much for those that don't play games and for some home-theater enthusiast.

When the 3D firmware update comes out, Sony can then advertise the PS3 as the cheapest 3D blu-ray player and that will make another selling point.

Maybe not so much. Still the PS3 is the major selling point for Blu-Ray movies in my house.

Considering I bought a bluray drive for my PC for 59.99 which can do 3D Blurays using powerDVD10 software... I would say no, it isn't for me.

If I bought PS3 id do it for the games. But im sure there are people out there that buy it for bluray as well.
