All taken from the first three pages of this thread, the fourth was a couple of posts after my first post, the rest before. If you read my posts I'm quite open and fair and not once do I mention any specific hardware or console wars!!!! Just discussing the visuals of the game as some people seemed to be of the impression that this game had the best graphics ever, as shown above. 

 

I don't see how constructive comparison and observations are trolling in the slightest, this is a games forum in a thread about opinions of a game. one person says "best ever", I say it looks great but there is still better looking games on the market. It is YOU who is flaming people without reason and making "fanboy" accusations and personal attacks. Why do you call me a fanboy and say I won't be buying a game because I disagree with some peoples opinion of the visuals? You're the one mentioning console comparisons and fanboys not me!

 

I was quite happy discussing a game that I probably will be buying but all this Fanboy this and Fanboy that goes too far when you can't make a valid argument with comparisons without getting flamed and called a troll or a fanboy. I'm here to read about and discuss games, gaming and the games industry in a friendly manner, so I won't let you draw me into a pointless argument thank you, that is my opinion on your very offensive post.

I agree with the part of your post not included. That's what forums are all about. Debate, discussion and criticism. And I'm glad people are bringing different points of view to this thread as it's letting me look at things I didn't notice before either.

I rarely share my opinions and act more as a mediator or someone who tries to set things straight so as to not allow false claims or misunderstanding. This is what I will be doing now. Regarding the part of your quote I included above:

 

 

 

Contender means challenger or competitor so this quote doesn't exactly say that this person thinks Alan Wake is the BEST looking.
Again, not saying Alan Wake is the best. It's pretty much labeling Alan Wake as a competitor, not necessarily the BEST looking.
Among, meaning it's a great looking title that ranks up there. Again, it doesn't say BEST looking.
Rival: an object that is competing for the same object or goal as another, or that tries to equal or outdo another; competitor. This is again saying that Alan Wake is a great looking title and the individual thinks it's among the great lookers, not necessarily labeling it the BEST looking.

Not a single one said it had the "best graphics ever", as shown above.

Having said that, the game looks well enough to depict the atmosphere it strives for and that's all that matters to me in regards to graphics nowadays with how advanced and pretty things have gotten.

Alright. This will be my last post as I have to start studying for exams again.

The developers have confirmed that it's 720p. So why would it "probably not" be so? You might bring up the point that they didn't mention whether that was output or rendering.

Here's some logic: If it weren't being rendered in 720p and instead was being upscaled why wouldn't they upscale it to 1080p like every other 360 game, exclusive or multiplat? The community manager who stated that it was 720p obviously means rendered. If he meant upscaled resolution he would've said 1080p much like the back of the boxart for every 360 game released in the last 3 years.

"We're just pushing 16:9 720p out and the Xbox360 OS handles the rest." Basically they confirmed that it outputs at 720p, not that it renders at 720p.

Because they published bullshots with a photoshopped hud (like ffxiii).

Because there are screenshots with the hud at native 720p and the rest at upscaled 540 (like splinter cell and ffxiii).

Because Microsoft retired the leaked video just after someone questioned the native resolution of this game.

Because the developers have always been vague about the native resolution.

Because the xbox360 can't have hdr lighting and 2xAA at the same time at 720p (however i don't know if Alan Wake has hdr lighting, however it's SSAO).

Maybe it's 720p and this is just marketing, but at the moment it's not clear.

Not exaclty. A TON of people started posting saying Alan Wake is the best looking game "ever" and that it's raising the bar for ALL games graphically. Saying it has the best graphics and lighting of any game ever and that  it blows all other games out of the water.

 

I don't know about other cases, but my point is that it isn't THAT amazing as people are claiming and that it seems to sit on average with other games and it needs some perspective. For me anyway it's nothing to do with a PS3/Xbox thing, I own both and actually have more 360 games than PS3 and will probably be adding Alan Wake to my collection when its released. If I could find examples of better looking 360 games as quickly as I could PS3 ones I'd use them instead, the problem is some of the best looking 360 games are on PC also, where most of their vids come from. You're really dumbing down the stuff that started this.

 

Thinking about it I think FFXIII looks better than Alan Wake too.

If this were the real world and not the internet, this is how it would look:

Mom:  My son, Billy is such a little artist!  His drawing of a pony is sooo cute!  It's probably the greatest picture of a pony, ever!

Lol, good point, but it's not like its someones pride and joy here, its a topic about a game on a website for gamers who have lots of opinions on games. If it is someones pride and joy then other games may be other peoples pride and joys also. When people say "this is the best EVER" then people are entitled to disagree and people will argue, especially on a subjective topic such as aesthetics. Without opinions and discussion forums would be pretty boring and thread would die off very quickly. :)

 

If anything Alan Wake fans should be thankful for the debate in this thread because it's keeping it on the front page and advertising the game more, most people won't read past the title or after checking the video anyway! At least most comments are constructive and fair rather than "Thiz game suxz because it's not got master chief". :p

It seems that ffxiii didn't teach anything.

Do us both a favour and please don't quote me, I have no intention of trying to debate with a person unable to grasp confirmed facts straight from the developers mouths.  By the way not a single user I know of in this thread stated FFXIII would look better on 360 than either the PS3 or any PS£ exclusive.  You're just trolling trying to annoy people and its pathetic.  NOBODY said it had the best graphics ever before the Sony fans came in THIS thread and wrecked it, you should all be banned for trolling.

Thank you very much for explaining the simple concept of reading to him.  His first post in here blatantly stunk of some "fan" reading too much into people hyped about a game, once again not a single one of those quotes said ALan Wake had THE best graphics.  One thing is for certain, the game doesn't look "average" in any rational individuals eyes and hence not only was he trolling but also baiting in my opinion too.
