Halo is a huge franchise.
PS3 has a smaller install base
Microsoft advertises better
Some PS3s are just used as Blu-ray players.

Many Xbox360 owners pirate their games. - I think this can offset the above bolded reason no?

Honestly i havent met a 360 user who pirates games tho they are out there, they just arent a huge group like 10% of users, maybe they are like 1-2 % tops , 400k-800k users

You obviously underestimate the piracy problem with the 360. Microsoft banned over 1 million consoles for piracy on the release of modern warfare 2, this was just the biggest of the banwaves. Theres likely still a few million more 360 consoles out there which either didn't get banned, have moved to undetectable hacks or play offline.

Back on topic. I believe the success of the 360s first party games lies with the extra year it had on the PS3. The 360 was left to be the pioneer of HD gaming for that year and all the franchises that came with it, Gears, Halo 3 (already big but got bigger with HD) and so on became known as must have titles. The fact that theres plenty of other games that do the same out there now gets forgotten.

Look at how people still hype Halo after the innovation and success of the first and second game, theres plenty of other games that offer the same and arguably better experiences but people still bang on about Halo because of it was the first franchise to bring the ideas and techniques to people. I bet theres plenty of phones out there now that are better than the I-Phone but because the I-Phone was the first touch screen phone to do it well people still hype it up to hell (look at the I-Pad).

Look at them exclusives you listed, shooters, people on 360 ADORE shooters, it's all they ever like, whereas on the PS3, people like all kinds of games, and not just shooters, you'll see that the PS3 offers more variety, especially in the exclusive games it has, example, LittleBigPlanet. So shooters aren't going to sell better at all, are they...

Good point, but from a developer's point of view, let's take naughty dog they could easily tripple there sales of Uncharted if they went multiplat, so what's stopping them from doing that cause there's no reason to stay exclusive to ps3 if the majority of software sales for 3ps are on the 360??

Btw I own a ps3 and like the fact that uncharted's exclusive but don't see any reason for it to stay that way in the future:(

Notice PS3 has a lot more diverse exclusives

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Sony owning the IP probably has a lot to do with it.

Oh, and owning Naughty Dog themselves.

Look @ the games you listed as example for 360, Gears and Halo.....anything else?

thats like me listing all the Gran turismo (10m sellers) to compare to game like Mass effect, left 4 dead or fable and say they dont compare in terms of sales........

My answer is exclusives don't sell badly on Ps3, you're simply comparing the wrong exclusives as you're using genres instead of franchises.

Let me explain.

Playstation's biggest exclusive now is actually GT5 - not an FPS. Assuming that sells around 10M (which is more than possible) then that's the PS3's Halo. You need to compare franchise sales not biggest exclusive FPS.

You're making the mistake of assuming because an FPS like Halo sells 10M on 360 an FPS on PS3 should do the same.

This is wrong. You might as well wonder why Forza 3 on 360 sells a fraction on 360 of PS3.

MGS4 has sold over 4M so far, God of War is steaming towards 2M already, etc. That's PS3's Gears of War, etc.

The reality is both consoles have a small number of big exclusives and so far the 360 has seen more relased vs PS3 (i.e. GT5 is still to come).

However soon enough - probably by the end of 2010 unless GT5 slips - you'll see both have a couple of big exclusives (Halo, GT), some decent big selling exclusives (Gears, God of War, MGS, etc) some decent mid selling exclusives (Mass Effect, Resistance, etc.) and roughly equal sales (in relation to install base) for most multi-platform titles.

So basically I think you're completely wrong to assume PS3 exclusives sell badly because you're comparing the wrong exclusives.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

So? Some 360s are just used as doorstops. You'll have to do better than that, Kantor.

I use my 360 for many things. I tried using the PS3 as a doorstop and it let Squilliam into the room.
