Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted 3? Nolan North says to use our 'common sense'

Nathan Drake’s voice actor Nolan North has said that although he has been told to remain tight-lipped in regards to a potential sequel to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, he has advised fans to use their own “common sense” to gauge whether or not there’ll be an Uncharted 3.

Speaking in the latest PlayStationChat podcast, North stated, “I’ve been told I can’t say one way or another. But I will ask a question back: Do you think it would be financially responsible of Sony to not make a third game that has made hundreds of millions of dollars for their company?”

“You’ve just got to use your common sense. What do you think? I’m not supposed to say one way or the other. I would encourage everyone to tap into their common sense.”

“I’m sure if we all used our common sense, I’m sure that decision from Sony will be very, very soon.”

“Not that I would know anyway. I would think that we would just have to hope that our senses are finely tuned into how the industry works. Not that I’m saying anything one way or the other. You should understand that… You should all think about what would be sound decisions.”

This isn’t the first time North has broached the subject of Uncharted 3. Back in January, he told GamePro that he is working on a sequel to both Uncharted 2 and Assassin’s Creed 2, in addition to "a couple of other big premiers that are still unannounced."

after playing U2 again just a few days ago I have to say I'm pretty excited about U3 being made (which I think it is).

Though, they better give us something new, and not just new locations.
Maybe expand the stealth aspects of the game or something? I have no idea how they would change things from U2.

Sideline Drake (but don't eliminate him) and bring Elena to the fore. Then make the game that Beyond Good and Evil 2 could have been until it got canned.

The problem with the Uncharted series is that it has no ongoing story. The truly great story driven franchises are ones with a single story that needs to be told over multiple games, while still telling a complete story within each game. My absolute favourite example of this is Legacy of Kain.

I think the series is good for one more game. It seems to be ND's modus operandi: make 3 great games then shift that IP to the side limiting future games to spin-off games and move the main talent on to a new IP.

This is pretty much the gaming industry's homage to series like Indiana Jones. I see no reason to deliver an overarching story because the whole point of Uncharted is to deliver a scripted action / adventure story that is easy to get into without too much background.

There will definitely be an Uncharted 3 announcement one way or another from ND.

Or you could look at it as making another great game after Uncharted 2 won pretty much every goty award...

Funny you should draw that comparison. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is an excellent example of the limited lifespan (quality-wise) of that sort of approach (well that and letting Spielberg loose on the franchise with his alien fetish). If the inspiration for this series is only good for 3 quality turn outs then that doesn't bode well for the homage.

If I was into betting I'd be willing to bet right now that U3 will not measure up to the critical and public acclaim of U2 and it won't measure up to the critical and public acclaim U:DF should have got. It'll still be a good game in its own right, and it will be a visual feast but it the franchise has peaked. I would LOVE to be proved wrong and I really hope I am.

Im just stoked to see uncharted 3 displayed on my hdtv... Naughty dog along with Santa Monica are Sony's best developers and know all the tricks with the cell processor.. I cant wait to see how incredible it looks as they figure out more about sony's powerhouse of a machine...

Then again I am a graphics/tech whore lol.

But the reason U3 will be (has been) green lit isn't because U2 won goty's, it's because it is a sales success and Sony/ND want to cash in on that success some more. Simple business.

Let's wait and see before we attribute greatness to U3.
