Lady GaGa's Bad Romance becomes most viewed video in youtube history

Forums - General Discussion - Lady GaGa's Bad Romance becomes most viewed video in youtube history

Gaga is living proof of society going down the crapper, her music while catchy is mediocre pop crapolla for the masses.

There is absolutely nothing great about it.

I love her beautifully poetic lyrics that can paint such vivid pictures of life, like "cherry cherry boom boom," "I'm bluffin' with my muffin" and "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick." You can really remember Gaga's message entire seconds after the song is over. I particularly like her Christmas sex song, "Ho ho ho, under the mistletoe, yes everybody knows, we will take off our clothes," and "my Christmas tree's delicious." She has some of the funniest metaphors about doing sex, and that's what the kids love. And they're set to catchy beats. It's no wonder she's at the top of the charts.

Same thing happened with "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel. Every single line in that song is a joke about sex, and that music video was the most watched music video on MTV in the entire 20th century, even more than "Thriller" or "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

They're even both famous for their crazy fashion. The difference is that only one of them can change up their musical style or sell records with their clothes on. And only one of them did it first over 35 years ago.

She's extremely ugly... I didn't see it until her third video because she seemed to always make an attempt to hide it. It's a shame someone like her can become successful for all the wrong reasons but the charming and fantastic guitarist living off spare change at the corner of Federation Square has to worry if his even going to have enough food until the next day.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

wow so many haters here!!. well you know what they say. when someone reach an amazing success the envy comes. lady gaga have this incredible success because of something simple. her music is amazing. and therefore a lot of people wants to hear it. lady gaga does things that has been done before????. oh please. the one who said that havent seen all the videos of her. i mean really????. something like bad romance or telephone have been done before???. mmm...

...

If it was envy that made people dislike her then don't you think they'd dislike all successful musicians? I always find it hard to fathom how people can't understand that some people simply don't like her music.

What I find pathetic is how people generally develope an expectation just because X artist is popular, out of the blue 90% of the posters here around a year ago said "She can't sing, She's manufactured, She doesn't write music" because she is a pop artist..

You don't realize it because you don't follow pop music as hard as I do.. Before lady gaga, you were right to categorize all pop musicans as manufactured/not being able to sing/not writing there music. She has made the entire pop industry work 10 times harder than they used to. They have all stepped up there game to keep up with this women. You have majore fucking bands and artists like DAUGHTRY, PARAMOORE, 30 SECOUNDS TO MARS, GREEN DAY, and more pay tribute to this women, it's not that I like her, it's the fact she has clearly had impact on music. I'm not even joking here, you guys may not even notice it because you guys don't care, but I honestly have noticed, before her DANCE/TECHNO/POP music did not exist on mainstream radio, all of a sudden christina aguilera changes her entire fucking look and sound, a year after lady gaga's "take over" year. Usher is doing techno, T Pain is doing techno, DR DRE is doing techno, AKON himself has said she has flipped a switch and changed things.

If oyu listen to mainstream music, you can't deny her appearence has caused a huge shift.. and there is a reason, she has fucking talent.

Leo-J. I'm not here to talk about Lady Gaga. Whatever.

But this whole paragraph you just typed? I have never heard somebody sound so confident of their knowledge of music while actually being so massively ignorant. I'm not trying to bash you, but you literally have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm an English/Music major. I've taken tons of music history, theory, etc classes. I read several music magaxines a month. Go to pitchfork and a few other websites every day. Listen to music reaching back decades and decades.

And I still don't think I know that much compared to some people. I try to be humble and admit that there are people who know far, far more than me, simply because they've been around longer and seen more.

This is why people get annoyed with your gushing love for Gaga. Your proclaim her to be all the things that she really isn't, and it's mainly because you're viewing her through the extremely limited scope of a teenaged boy. Grow up, gain some perspective, learn more music history, then we'll see how innovative and groundbreaking you think Lady Gaga is.

She's a lot of things. A lot of good things. But innovative and groundbreaking are certainly not among them. Nor did she bring dance/"techno" mainstream (not techno by the way, but whatever). I mean, hell. Kanye had 808 and Heartbreaks, a pure-electro album, out before Gaga. And that's just one of tons of examples.

She's a pop star. Pop stars are by definition cyclical: there's nothing about her that hasn't been done before, and better. She's a regurgitated amalgam of other genres and past trends.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Hurrah for you. You win one internets, sir.

Pop princesses, no matter how goofy, are a dime a dozen. Pop music is exactly that - popular. It does not mean that its indicative of quality at all. It more has to do with hype, marketing, and marketability of a person as opposed to any modicum of talent. Don't get me wrong - GaGa has more talen than a lot of females have had in the past 10 years of pop music. But to compare her with the greats of the industry, merely based on album sales (or YouTube hits) is beyond absurd.

The fact is that GaGa will not have a prolonged impact on the music industry. 30 years from now, she will be known more for her whorish and strange dress than her music ability. That is the kind of scope you have to have when it comes to the popularity and ability of a person, because albums can be very tempremental things. Heck, Fame Monster is already in the shadows of the first album when it comes to sales.

Having said that, there are a few men and women that can transcend the popular music genre into something else. The last person that really did that, I believe, just died last year. His name was Michael Jackson. He had the combined talents of every popular music artist of this entire decade combined. GaGa can play the keyboards and sing okay. Jackson composed almost every instrument on Thriller, and in the case of Beat It, played the drums.

I wonder if Leo-J has ever listened to Dream Theater.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Anything popular people automatically jump on it like its the greatest thing ever.

Women/Girls control the music industry, not that they run it but they listen to anything that has a good beat and its catchy. Fucking lyrics and skill.

A rapper named Drake, who is a mediocre piece of shit rapper is blowing up like hes god reincarnated. Why because of girls. He did that one song with Trey Songs (A god damn R&B singer) and hes blowing up. He can BARELY rap.

Main stream music sucks.

I don't see this as an accomplishment, mainly because 600,000 people viewed a video about someone dying their hair. Most of the people on that site are tools and emo's.

I'm responding to the part I bolded and underlined:

Are you saying that about the Beatles, Michael Jackson, U2, and Depeche Mode, huge international mainstream pop successes that are still covered and loved decades later?  I can name dozens of mainstream popstars that can have #1 songs, videos, and albums, and sell out stadium shows all around the world, and all of them I'd consider "artists" who are not manufactured, they can sing, and they can write their own music.  It has nothing to do with pop, and nothing to do with mainstream.

David Bowie and Prince are the ones who made the entire pop industry work 10 times harder.  It is due to Bowie and Prince (and eventually by MTV, Billy Idol, and Duran Duran) that all pop stars have to be sexy as hell, and sing, dance, have innovative fashion, make-up, hair, tours, and videos.  Before them you could actually get by on just being a great singer/songwriter/guitarist like John Lennon or Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash.  They never had to dance or get a wacky hairdo.  But now music is a visual industry.  You buy sexy wallpapers of your favorite musicians, instead of albums.  Bowie and Prince created the modern singer/dancer/actor/fashion icon/everything mold, and the pop industry slowly killed itself trying to keep up with Bowie and Prince.  Finding somebody who can naturally do all of that at once is extremely rare, so they have to MANUFACTURE them now.  What you do is hire a dancer, and teach her how to sing, because it's cheaper than hiring a singer and teaching her how to dance, and because they'll look better naked.  So we're left with Britney, Christina, Gaga, and whoever else.

Here are the people who make Lady Gaga's sound.  The studio finds these guys to make her sound, so all she has to worry about is wacky lyrics and wacky hairdos and kissing Katy Perry 'cuz like ohmigod she's a girl and like that's so gay and crazy!  The Fame Monster had SIX PRODUCERS.  She shops around.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Fusari (He also wrote for Will Smith, Destiny's Child, and Bone Thugs.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RedOne (He also wrote for Backstreet Boys, Brandy, Enrique Iglesias, and New Kids on the Block.)

Remember Wet Wet Wet?  Their song "Love Is All Around" was #1 on the UK charts for 15 weeks straight, until several radio stations actually banned the song, and the band got so sick of it they stopped selling it.  Nobody has touched that record.  The closest were "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, who both hit #1 for 9 weeks.  Remember how we all still love Wet Wet Wet 20 years later?  So much more than Queen?

TL;DR: Haters gotta hate.
