The thing with Just Dance is they could put an add on almost any channel and it still be effective. This is because their game appeals to almost everyone.

If Madworld were to put an add on Disney Channel, besides the fact the parents would get angry, it would not be effective. It wouldn't be effective because no one who watches Disney Channel want want a bloody fighting game.
So MadWorld's ads were forced to gaming magazines, TV shows, and sponsoring.

I don't think it is based of anything.

However there is a Wii-Dancing Game "Dancing with the Stars", which bases on a TV-Show with the same name. (Maybe you have mixed up these two ...)

I knew about that one.

It's just hard to believe some came up with a dancing game that has nothing to do with some other form of media. Glad to see it's selling well though.
