Add online/offline co-op and tweak the controls a bit. If they used post-patch multiplayer controls from KZ2 in both singleplayer and multiplayer, they could probably get by, but decreasing the lag ever so slightly. Advertise it more than the last one on top of that and it should do fine. Improving the story would also be nice, but given what franchises like Gears of War and Call of Duty can get away with, its obviously not necessary. Of course, a gripping narrative can certainly make up for weaknesses in other areas. Games like Half-life and Uncharted don't sell well just because of the gameplay.

All I know is expect to see much improved marketing this time around. Look at Uncharted 2's sales given its improved marketing and better release window (post-slim). Granted, Uncharted 2 is one of the best games in years, but I believe they have similar plans to turn Killzone into one of their bigger franchises through a more elaborate advertising campaign.

I honestly think with Killzone 2 they were first trying to legitimize the franchise with hardcore gamers, hence the focus on trade shows as opposed to more mainstream marketing (just look at the E307 reveal), and with Killzone 3 they'll try to make the franchise reach bigger audiences, knowing they already have hardcore gamers on their side (something they didn't have with Killzone 1).

I don't know about that, a lot of hardcore gamers hated the control of killzone 2 and are not buying Killzone 3 for sure.

wrong alot of the casual hated killzones 2 controls, hardcore gamers loved it tbh, only casuals who think they are hardcore aka cod noobs, halo fans hated killones control's, but to people like me and.....

<---- this guy, killzones controls kicked ass, this is pre patch btw, see noobs you can actaually play the game just as easily as cod, you just have to actually be good at the fps :)

No, some hardcore gamers hated it too, just look at that huge gaf thread or some review scores.

it needs to become popular with the pre-teen to teen children, as well as gangsters, bros and other degenerates.

Then it will sell as well as Halo/Cod.

If they paid activision to call it "Call of Duty: Killzone 3" It would sell 10million. doesnt matter if it was exactly the same game as it was before, these games sell on name not content.

That's a bit harsh.  And only partially true.  Each Halo game introduced tons of new features and aspects.  They sold because they were quality titles with endless hours of replay value and multiplayer.  CoD games are more fitting to what you described.  Mostly just new weapons and maps but the same game with not much added features.

lol every halo is the same as the last. infact they keep getting worse IMO. the best story was the 1st and the best multiplayer wa part 2. but honestly every halo is exactly the same

while when it comes to call of duty they add different stuff every game like COD:WAW they added nazi zombies and COD:MW2 they added the mecenaries mode. so yeah do your research next time lol no offence.

the only different halo first person shooter is HALO: ODST which has fire fight.

Me do my research?  How about you do your research, bub.  Maybe even consider playing a Halo game before trying to act like an expert.

Halo 1:  Great story, LAN multiplayer, a mix of about 6-8 weapons and 10ish maps

Halo 2:  Much improved graphics, brought the insane fun of online play, more weapons, more maps

Halo 3:  Much improved graphics, brought 4 player co-op of single player campaign, improved online play, more weapons, introduced equipment such as grav lifts and bubble shields, added armor customization and the ability to play as elites, added Theater mode to view all campaign and multiplayer matches, more maps, etc.

Halo ODST:  Different take on halo story mode, added Firefight.

CoD on the other hand only ever updated the weapons, maps, graphics, and added Nazi Zombies or Spec Ops co-op modes and perks.  For the most part it was the same game over and over with a new skin and just 2 new modes after 6 iterations.  Still no campaign co-op, no theater mode, no character customization.

Nothing they can do will generate those sales. Killzone is too hardcore to sell that number. Halo's are MW are very easy, that's why people like them. Killzone would have to be dumbed down and commercialized which would ruin it. It wqould be nice to see some plants though in the next one!

grenade throwing: when you throw a grenade it should go where your crosshair is aiming, not bounce back on you, stupid bouncing grenade

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I'm a huge Killzone 2 fan.  The game sold decently (2.24 million so far) and continues to sell.  With the game receiving Greatest Hits pricing, I have no doubt that it will reach 3 million lifetime units sold.  This is ok, but obviously not in the same league as some of the more massive shooter franchises.

What would Killzone 3 need to have to generate sales of 5-6 million or higher?  These aren't necessarily things I would want, but things that I believe would generate sales:

  1. Campaign Co-op mode (2 player co-op, or even 4 player, as in the just announce Gears 3).
  2. Vehicles in multiplayer.  Greater use of vehicles in single player.
  3. A solid party system in multiplayer.
  4. A more developed story in the single player campaign.
  5. Split screen multiplayer

Your 5 suggestions are good even if I personaly think that will not realy help KZ3 to explode the sales score. The first and the most simple thing to "fix" in this serie is only to create a hero, a REAL HERO, not like this boring troopers that we've played in both KZ. Know that Gear of War or Halo would not be acclaimed without their very charismatic/legendary hero like Marcus Phoenix (damn, what a awesome name !) and the Master Chief.

In another style, Nathan Drake is a big reason of the success of Uncharted franchise. This little examples show how the "great hero" notion is important for a video game. Once Gerrilla become aware of this issue and corrected it by giving us an oustanding "Killzone Hero" like the famous Duke (lol ^^), they will sell more than 5 millions of their game, for sure !!!

Regards

amore appealing hero, thats what the other franchises have

massive sales can lick my balls, massive sales means massive casuals, massive casuals means shitty ass noob dumb downed gameplay, which means shitty ass noob dumbed down multiplayer, which means crap killzone game. I don't want to see killzone suffer the same fate as killzone 2 and battlefield bad company 2 (aka battlefield for dummies), c'mon casuals you destroyed every single hardcore shooter out there, let us have killzone, play crysis instead *Please!!!*

game is well was perfect, loved the hardcore gameplay, hardcore multiplayer, clan support unmatched by any game, player hosted ded. servers, and the graphics were iceing on the cake, that add new maps, guns etc, but keep killzone just the way it is (not a massive seller) 1 million will be all it will need and 1 million is what it shall have.

don't go for mass market appeal please GG.

If you were a CEO of a game company, how much sales would you want.

5 million, or 10 million.

as much needed to satisfy my fanbase no matter how big, don't care could be 12 million or 500k as long as the people who brought it for what it was and who I was targeting loves it I'm good. I won't modify my vision, or dumb down my games for the sake of more sales,
