It got a jap release date of march 2010, but was then delayed.  But it never had a date set for the rest of the world.  The game has been in development for i think 4-5 years, but PD have been doing Tourist trophy, GTPSP and GT5:P in the mean time.  While 5 years is a long time it is not uncommon for BIG BIG games to take this long.  PD have stated that the original GT took 5 years to make.  Also alan wake is reported to have taken 5 years to make.

All in all the bashing is from xbox fanboys who are just attacking sony's flagship title and little more.

Really, the original GT took five years to make? That's phenomenal considering that it released in 1997 and Yamuichi created his first game in 1994.

It must have been brewing in his bowels for quite some time for that kind of magic to happen. Or maybe the team behind the game stemmed from his loins, like Zeus. That would have been spectacular.
