Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why does Epic keep Gears of War a Xbox 360 exclusive?

They just recently said it becomes more and more difficult to stay independent and then went on saying they can do what they want with the Gears of War franchise since they own it

Gears of War 3 will be revealed on April 12 and it looks like it will be one again a Xbox 360 exclusive

Didn't they just went against they said? what make it exclusive if they can make more money on the PS3? Epic works with other publishers and EA are publishing one of their new games, it not like their Insomniac that only worked with Sony and all their IP's are owned by them

Do you think the partnership with Microsoft and the money they make out if it is enough to make them quit on what know probably a 35 million user base and by next year will be much larger?

Developer do establish certain relationships with certain console makers, that mean their game will get locked into one console or another, unless a lot of money is thrown around.  My wish is that people would understand and accept this, rather than whine about it, and call the developers "stupid" or imply that they are dumb.  There are feelings of entitlement individuals seem to have when they are loyal to only one console, in that they get upset at a game going multiconsole (Final Fantasy 13) or complain when a certain game doesn't make a jump to their console (Mass Effect, Gears, or Metal Gear Solid 4).

According to partisan logic, Final Fantasy XIII won't sell as well is did, or be all it can be, because it is on the 360 also.  Conversely, I am told that Gears of War would do better salewise if it were a system exclusive... and not get marketed by Microsoft.

lol to people who think that Gears of War games will be ever released on other consoles.
IP is owned by Epic but MS is a publisher of Gears of War series keeping part of the rights to this IP just like it is with Mass Effect.

What he said I think you can also put Halo and PGR in the same category.

N-I-N-J-A G-A-I-D-E-N 2 published by MS now available on ps3.....

Its Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 not exactly the same game.  Also Ninja Gaiden goes back to the NES and the arcades and never was a MS exclusive.

Thats not what you and waron are saying tho, you said that x franchise is published by MS so it wont go Multiplat so there I proved it wrong...

You didn't prove anything wrong really I say it again Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is not the same game as Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360.  Also the Ninja Gaiden franchise existed long before MS entered the gaming industry.  GoW, Halo and PGR wouldn't exist withouth the original X-box and the 360.

Project Gotham Racing was Metropolis Street Racing on the Dreamcast before the developers got brought on by Microsoft to create for them the next version of the game... with a new name.  Even Ninja Gaiden ends up with Sigma in its name, when it jumped to the PS3.

epic will get thier sales on 1 platform anyway, plus with ms moneyhatting its a total hit game for epic.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

So why is it surprising that Xbox games stay exclusive but there's no talk of why God of War 3 can't go to 360 either. Anyways, both are "GoW" :)

Certain Playstation partisans want these games, but can't bring themselves to buy a Microsoft console, because they want Microsoft out of the market, if not dead completely.  That is why it isn't brought up.

GOW should be God of War because the IP is older, dah. Gears is Geow because it avoids confusion. Don't be delusional about this.

On Topic: I would hate to see this series come to PS3 as game diversity on platforms is vital to push the companies to ACTUALLY make their consoles unique, or are they truly twins? If they both want my money from me they better not be.

I thought Gears of War was shortened to Gears to prevent confusion.  Only time I normally see Geow come up is when people argue that the REAL GoW is God of War.

Good point I usually refer to the game as Gears, but I have thought people were talking about God of War when they used GOW to refer to gears. It is a little annoying. I agree lets call it gears, its all good.

MS probably bought the rights for the 3rd game.

Microsoft probably give them a good deal when they publish it, so they might make more money per game with them than they would with a third party publisher and also Microsoft will market the hell out of the game for them, Gears 3 will get 5-6 million sales with the marketing Microsoft will give them

ho ho this is an easyone. microsoft bouht the rights to the dualy planed trilogy. not sure about anything after the trilogy with epic being under the ea partners banner
