It's a platform, not a console.

Arguably there are two ways of looking at it I suppose.

One is that a [gaming] console is something built for playing games on, not used for anything else.... in that sense the last proper console was the GameCube, as even the Wii is a hybrid device now.

The other way of looking at it is what something is used for.... if you connect your machine, be it Wii/PS3/360 OR PC to your display device, and ONLY use it to play games then it is a gaming console.... in that sense a PC can be a gaming console, but it is far more unusual... some people with lots of money may have a special gaming PC that they only use for games in addition to the normal web browsing and working PC... but for most a PC is a multimedia device.

I believe the proper way to think of it is that a device that is made primarily a devoted home gaming device that is not a portable.

You mean ignore the fact that I may from time to time use the Wii browser... just focus on what I primarily use it for.

That is kind of the same thing I meant in the first "way of looking at it" I mentioned, ie the current three are consoles, but the GameCube is still the last 100% gaming console.

There is no single way of defining it really so the best thing is just to go with the majority, and the majority view PCs seperate from consoles.

the pc had a variety of games on it before any other gaming machine did. then again if u can take it online play movies and it only does evewrything but cook my food (and beleave me i trid to cook with all the above menioned(ha ha))its is not a console it is a multi medi device. the last three coonsoles are(n64 the best, seaga saturn, and gamecube.)

Yes, ignore the fact you can browse the web on the Wii.  You would be stupid to buy a Wii for web browsing, the Wii is for the most part bought for playing games as is the PS3 and Xbox 360.  True, there are people that exist that buy the consoles for other purposes, but their main purpose is to be a gaming machine.

You can do other stuff on consoles, that doesn't matter, what matters is that it's a gaming machine first and foremost.

Except the consoles are becoming like PCs so its hard to say theres much of a difference anymore. Oh and PCs are becoming more like consoles, so with apps like Steam they'll meet somewhere in the middle.

Tease.

No, the PC is not a console, its a Personal Computer and conceptually a different thing and yes, it is silly label games "only on xxx" when and if it is also available on the PC.

ARN'T CONSOLES PERSONAL TWO? WHEN U BUY IT, U OWN IT.

It's hard to say
