i predict killzone 3 to have better visuals than crysis 2

as i was reading the OP i was thinking the same thing... i predict that killzone 2 engine with some new teaks and improvements used in KZ3 will beat this game in graphics and if gameplay of KZ3 vs crysis 2 its like their predecessors i will prefer KZ3 over Crysis 2.

The usual "We maxed out the console" advertisement

IMO too big claims, although I am sure if one multi-platform developer can come close it would probably be Crytek. But I think a couple of years into the future and they will be able to achieve much more on the platform, this will be their first PS3 product!

Looking better than on the XBox 360 or even PC, I could easily believe such claims if they put their mind to it. But hitting the ceiling of the PS3's abilities sounds far too outrageous to me.

Does that mean they will make optimal use of Blu-Ray streaming with higher quality textures and such? Does this mean they hand optimised all their code for eight different 3.2 Ghz processors while enhancing the RSX's potential as much as possible like it is designed for? What about future OS optimisations, potentially allowing developers to tap into even more PS3 resources in the future?

Seems more likely they will have to resort to multi-platform sacrifices. For example you normally can't have one version of your game running with many more onscreen enemies than on a much weaker platform (like on the 360).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Crysis 3 PC > Crysis 2 PS3 > Crysis 2 360???

I was thinking the exact same thing, then again from what Crytek has said before its probably going to happen just like this.

This article doesn't mention the 360 at all.  It says it will raise the bar for graphics on the PS3.  Even if the 360 version doesn't end up looking as good as the PS3 version, you would think they'd say that it would set a new standard for the 360 as well.  So we can't really glean anything related to which will look better from these statements, because we were never intended to.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

wonder if the game will actually be fun or just a polygon polish fest...

Will it raise the bar? Yes. Graphical ceiling? Very strongly doubt it.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Well we'll see mister

In 2008 Kojima said that they've maxed the PS3 out, booo-hooo. Wrong. And I doubt that Crytek will pull it off for good, the best looking games on PS2 came late, noone believed that GOW2 could be pulled on PS2, but it happend.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

Thoughts? Initially I was thinking that Crytek have big mouths, this is the same hogwash every developer with their own engines present.
I was also thinking (like disolitude it seems) that this game will probably be either weak, boring or both much like the two previous Crysis games so it doesn't really matter to me what it looks like.

Crysis 2 PS3 Will Hit Graphical Ceiling

Crytek has claimed that it's NewYork-based FPS sequel Crysis 2 will bring an unbeatable new visual quality to the PS3

The console has been spolit in recent months with Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and God of War III each setting new graphical  standards. However, lead Playstation 3 programmer Michael Glück is confident that Crysis 2 will exceed anything that has gone before.

"With each generation of game titles on PS3, usually every 2 years, the games improve significantly in its quality, mostly showing off in graphics," Glück told Play Magazine. "I think with Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar being set at a very high level that games will struggle to excel. We’re aiming to set a whole new benchmark with that game for all PS3 games."

“With Crysis 2 you will see the quality bar set at a high level that games will struggle to exceed”

The Crytek dev doesn't think that there will be much room for improvement in future games either. "Still with an AAA title shipped on PS3, you get the chance to improve further, so the next game developed with CryEngine 3 after Crysis 2 on PS3 will not be worse and rather be more polished and have higher quality in all areas. However, it is unlikely to see a major improvement in graphics as we try to not cut any graphical feature and rather optimize it until it becomes feasible. So I expect more density of game elements, physic effect, more interaction, but the major graphics quality will not be significantly improved."

The original Crysis was a PC powerhouse which looked so great that gamers willingly upgraded PCs and graphics cards just to play it. Check out the recent Crysis 2 screens to see what you think, and look out for our preview on the game soon...
