Forums - PC Discussion - Are macs really better then pc's?

No. Mac PCs are a piece of shit. When it comes to price/performance, the Macs fail worse than an illiterate redneck in an advanced Literature course.

Macs are for people who don't have the capacity to learn basics of computing, i.e. older people and children, and that's about it.

I once spend about a week and a half exclusively on a Mac. THe whole "it just works" schtick is so absolutely false. It also has annoying defaults, like the jumping dock icons, that need to be fixed. It also had no less problems than when I was using Windows. All in all, you are pissing away your money for a product that's crap compared to Windows. Since everything is basically the same it falls down to functionality and nothing beats Windows and the amount of software it handles.

See? This is what I'm talking about. Please give us some evidence that Macs cater to old people and children (wealthy children apparently?)

Macs are great computers. I don't say they are better than Windows but they are surely not worse. This comment was just crap. You really think everyone who likes Macs likes "pieces of shit"? Apple is one of the biggest manufacturers of notebooks - are all those people just silly? Have they all been fooled by "evil Apple"? Are they not able to determine quality?

@Illegal Paladin: It was meant in a sense of "fast enough". And I never said specs don't matter. They do. But there are other things that matter, too.

@alekth: Apple's market share is quite high for notebooks. Besides that most people still favour those values, if they buy Apple or not. There are also Windows PC's and notebooks that sell on values beyond performance.

let me see: PCs are cheaper and can play pretty much any games that where ever released on it. So yeah, for me PCs win hands down

Apple products, just like Mac computers are extremely overpriced, and IMO they only ride the wave of ads they are getting. And lets be honest, at least in that cattegory Apple is doing a great job

Are you saying that average consumers of broadly embraced and available consumer electronics and computers have skills and insight to determine quality? Can they also determine the quality of the the cars and furniture they purchase? Average consumers are not very well versed in various markets at all and generally have little to no knowledge of what they're buying and how it compares to other, similar products. Monkey see, monkey do, and they same goes for average consumers.

I buy clothes sometimes but I don't know shit about their quality, all I see are people wearing them, whether they look good and suit me and the price tag. I am in no way capable of seeing if its a good quality product at all but that doesn't mean I'm stupid though, it just means I'm an average consumer. Honestly, how many average consumers knows as much about consoles, computers and games as the average user in here? Do not make the mistake of overestimating peoples knowledge or will to educate themselves before making a purchase.

I'm not saying vlad's post wasn't over the top and I'm not taking sides since I've never owned a Mac, but to even entertain the thought that average consumers are anything but average is plain silly imo.

Here's the thing, any retail mac is going to be better than any big box pc retail computer.
However, when doing a price comparison vs the elite companies (alienware, falcon, digitalstorm, ibuypower, or cyberpower + a host of others), the macs pale in performance and are generally the same price although you'd have to look through a couple different sites before you right one that properly smashes a mac in the face.

I agree with you but there is a difference between being average and being dumb. When you buy a 1000$ notebook you try to find some information about it. I guess what most people do when they buy a new notebook is comparing the performance and the price of different products. And if you only look at that it's true that someone who buys a Macbook over a Windows notebook for instance is silly because you can get the same specs for less money on Windows. But someone who is trying to get better battery life, a robust machine and things like that backlit keyboard should really consider buying a Macbook instead. To be honest a Macbook feels much better when you hold it in your hands than the average notebook.

I'm not saying consumers are pro's or they know exactly what makes a product a quality product. But they know their preferred values, they know what they want their machine to do and if someone thinks a Mac fits them better . To me quality is determined by what you want your product to do. And if someone thinks a Mac fits their needs better, why not? Sure the average customer doesn't know that much about those things but I think they are able to look for the qualities they want in their products.

To be honest I was mainly angry at Vlad's post because it generally just labeled everyone who buys a mac as stupid. And that's surely not the case.

I think we're in agreement here, where Mac has gained the most is user friendly solutions, great ads and out of the box solutions to consumers who have neither the technical need nor interest for something we would deem good enough.
They have found a huge market and given people what they want.
Its certainly not what I want but that doesn't matter, my needs and wants are quite a ways from average after all.

what most computer geeks have told me, Macs are very good for some stuff, but 95% of people wont ever use that stuff, so they are effectively useless and overpriced for that 95% of people

So... how much porn is ways from average?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Macs allow you to say that they are very cool and you just don't understand macs. Just like linux macs do not fail in games. Actually games fail macs. :)

(I need to get mac eventually that my games won't fail macs. Linux and windows are covered already.)

PC > Mac.

Also Iphone is a great phone. Whoever dislikes it really does not know much about it. My friend has an Ipod touch. And a Droid. He has compared them. Guess what. Droid is better in some aspects. Iphone/touch in others. I love my Iphone 3G S. It replaced a computer for me, for about 9 months. I didn't even miss a computer.
