Forums - PC Discussion - Are macs really better then pc's?

I like PCs better, I just bought a new Sony Vio, with the cell processor in it, 6 or 8 gigs of ram, like 1 t, HD, DVD/Bluray player and burner, The best graphics card, and tons and tons of shit, the battery lasts like 6 plus hours, all for 1300 dollars US. Sorry there is not a MAC that compares.

Probably because the Macbook hasn't been updated since June last year I'm actually waiting for the new Macbook Pro to be released. I was also considering a Vaio but I want that backlit keyboard and I'll carry my notebook around quite a lot and the aluminum feels way more durable than whatever they used in the Vaio. If the update doesn't dissappoint I'll go with the Macbook. But Vaio's are really cool.

Mac's tend to have inferior (in performance/speed/size) components, however they are typically more reliable components. Mac OS's are plagued with issues just like many Windows OS's.. upgrading OS's can be a pain (or a breeze) for really any OS. Upgrading components in a Mac... you minds well just buy a new Mac. Honestly, it comes down to the snob tax - expect to pay 2x more for a comparable mac as opposed to a pc.

haha damn i posted this thread out of shear boredom I had no idea it would become such a big deal.

So many Mac haters. What a shame.

Only 1 or 2 people look to be Mac haters. But you seem to class everyone who things PCs are better, and anyone who... I dunno, objectively looks at what Macs offer vs their price, to be a Mac hater.

Nice assumptions.

Almost as nice as assuming that anyone who prefers a PC is a Mac hater, actually.

Im a PC Gamer.

Title says it all.

Haha, I love how people just assume that Macs are for people who don't understand computers. Actually, the percentage of software developers who use Macs is much higher than the percentage of the general population who use Macs.

Macs are superior in a lot of ways: security, stability, ease of use, developer tools, and very high efficiency and control for user applications.

PCs (running Windows) are also superior in a lot of ways: many more hardware customization/upgrading options, the availability of very cheap components, and a vastly larger selection of software (especially games).

In my opinion, it all comes down to personal choice. I like them both and I think people that argue that "people that use operating system ___ are insane, stupid, or deluded" should probably take a look in the mirror.

I will try to look for it tonight, but I remember reading from some computer related convention (or some such) where they had tests of cracking into systems (windows, mac and linux) and someone (or people) commented that the mac wasn't particularly more secure than the windows systems. From my understanding, it has beem more of a lack of people trying to break in because it is a "better" use of their time to try to break into windows anyhow. This was probably from a couple years ago though, so I can't say about the status of current systems.

Also in my experience, I haven't really had stability problems with my windows machines for several years. Unless we want to discuss hardware related, but that's a different subject. Whereas I remember back in the day when I was in elementary school, the macs back then had plenty of crashes, but I'm well aware that the current systems are supposed to be very good about it. I haven't had really any long term use of macs for awhile, so I can't speak on the other points. I'm not really against the mac operating system. I do take some issue with the price Apple charges for some of their hardware though, but that just means I can continue voting with my wallet.

Macs are niche computers. People who like looks over power. PCs are better and the fact that PCs allow you to install whatever OS you want make it a better deal. I purchased a mac once within 3 months I was using a PC again. I still don't understand folks who think everything apple makes is so great, truthfully, it isn't.

I gave Ubuntu a go very recently and I was totally blown away. It's so stable, intuitive and full of bonus content. Aesthetically it needs a bit of polish, but I was very positively surprised.

Unfortunately I still need to use a Microsoft OS for now, but in the medium term I'll be completely changing to either an Apple computer or one with Ubuntu on it.
