Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo + Blu Ray will be the killer next generation combo.

Yes, I am poking fun at someones title. No harm intended, just a bit of fun. Fun is good afterall!

If you look at Nintendo you can chitchat about a lot of things they are doing poorly in your opinion, but there is one thing that sticks out of the crowd and that's piracy. Piracy is the biggest problem that Nintendo is facing and can be largely solved by using a medium that hardly anyone has a burner for. Blu ray diodes are cheap ass these days and would make the next Nintendo console capable off playing 1080P pron which is what everyone wants (and noone but google search results admits, ofcourse you are the exception that never ever watches pron).

What Bluray brings to the table:

- more storage

- proven to be an valuable asset in the fight against piracy

- HD pron (ofcourse you don't look at that)

- some other movies and television shows which are non pron related, thus boring.

- proven to be more schratch proof

- capable of 3D games (and pron)

Why would nintendo want this?

- Japan is a pron orientated country (no joke, that's a fact)

- no piracy which is what Nintendo keeps complaining about.

Bluray and Nintendo ftw!

Nintendo never uses other companies formats and instead create their own proprietary discs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_data_storage

In the video game market

Some have speculated that Nintendo will be the first video game console maker to implement holographic data storage due to the recent uncovering of a Joint Research Agreement between InPhase and Nintendo.[10]

Nintendo is also mentioned in the patent as a joint applicant: "... disclosure is herein made that the claimed invention was made pursuant to a Joint Research Agreement as defined in 35 U.S.C. 103 (3), that was in effect on or before the date the claimed invention was made, and as a result of activities undertaken within the scope of the Joint Research Agreement, by or on the behalf of Nintendo Co., and InPhase Technologies, Inc." [11]

That's even assuming we'll be using physical media at all in 10 years.

DVD!

The Wii doesn't use DVD.

It uses it's own propritary format that's loosley based off of a miniDVD... so as to avoid liscensing fees.

It's more or less a larger version of the Gamecube disc.

I keep hearing that the Blu-Ray medium is in trouble...that blu-ray movie sales are down and forecast to keep falling...if that's true then a Wii w/blu-ray may not make much sense.

Bah!

Why would nintendo want this?

Because Nintendo is an Kamikaze!

no. ¬¬

They don't mean "in trouble" as going to fail.  They just mean "in trouble" as adoption is fairly slow, well behind DVD adoption and the twin spectres of VOD and Digital Distribution hang over everyones heads.

It's spelled 'porn'.
