Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Never played Pokemon before..

To be honest, I have the Wii and DS but I haven't been much of a ninty fan since the SNES (when PS1 came out I had to decide between FF series or Zelda as I was a broke 16 year old and could only afford 1 system)

Anyhow, I didn't even realize that the Pokemon games were an RPG, so I am looking to get the games, owning just a DS and a Wii can you recommend what games I should get, and in which order (is there a continuing storyline, etc?)

Prefer games on DS as I work nights (12 hours - and usually just sirf the web for those 12 hours :P)

Thanks in advance!

Your life must be sad without Pokemon.

Heart Gold or Soul Silver is the better value, nominally. You get a longer continuous story (though there's little real story to speak of).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The story in every major Pokemon game is the same, with little regards to other games, so you're okay there.

Definitely go with HeartGold/SoulSilver here. There's at least twice the amount of content in those games than any other Pokemon game, and the roster of Pokemon is more memorable than other generations.

HeartGold/SoulSilver is OK for a person who never has played Pokemon???

I do not see why  not. I had only played Blue and I am doing just fine in SoulSilver

Once you play 1 pokemon game you've played them all basically story wise. Each iteration just seems like more pokemon to memorize and balancing out gameplay, tweaks etc.

So I picked up Heart Gold, and have been playing for about 3 hours, just have a question, do you guys rotate your pokemon in and out of battles so they all level up together?

As right now, I'm using just one mostly all the time and he is level 16 where the next highest is 5, just got my first badge, so should I just level the one that is 16 up to 20, then switch to another pokemon and level him up..

Just wondering what you guys usually do, since this is my first Pokemon game

I do that with all of my 6 pokemon and if you enjoy HeartGold you can buy Platinum for a better map/sidequest

I am Kong.

Strong and passionate, I tend to be misunderstood, sometimes even feared. I don't want to fight, I don't want to cause trouble, all I ask is a little love, and a little peace. If I don't get what I want, I get angry, and throw barrels and flaming oil at whatever's stopping me. What Video Game Character Are You?
