I'm about to get a Wii and DS sometime next week if only I can find some(Wii)....I will be searching, I just want some VGChartz members to give me a list of recommended Wii and DS games that are good or tight and worth owning....Give me as many games as possible....

trauma center under the knife is also amazing, though difficult and somewhat short

Wii

also, Nights Journey of dreams looks good. Get Wii Play imo. Guitar hero for wii is also $10 cheaper for wii then 360...

you like shooter games, right? You may want to pick up metroid prime hunters for DS as well. There is some 9/10 WW2 DS shooter also, but I can't rember the name :(

Oh well...Andrew I like shooters, I'm getting the Wii because my family household wants it and its convient for us. I like it now and my mom really wants to play it too. So shooters I will buy. But Wii Play, Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy is some musthaves now...to get my family going with the Wii and me!

As Montana says it's all about personal taste, however since you asked:

Obviously the big 3: Zelda, Mario, Metroid - all great in their own right
RE4
Zack & Wiki (or so everyone says, havn't played it)
Godfather (some will go WTF, but any Wii owner who has this will tell you the use of the Wiimote is fantastic and makes this good game great) Scarface is also really good, but I prefer GF
WiiPlay (might as well, you'll need another Wiimote and it's only $10 more)

Plus you need a party game or two:
I suggest Rayman Raving Rabbids - it makes great use of the Wiimote, is a lot of fun and only $30. I'll get RRR2 when it drops in price too. RRR2 is better multiplayer, RRR better single player
MP8 - I hate to suggest it, but there's no denying that non-videogaming friends/family love this game.
Mario & Sonic is a lot of fun too in small dosages
Mario Strikers - crazed fun, not good for non-gamers, great online play.

My son only recently got a DS so all I can suggest is:

Mario Kart
