Forums - Sales Discussion - UK - 360's strongest country?

360 is much cheaper than the PS3 in UK. 360 launched 16 months before the PS3 in the UK. 17 months advantage is a big lead in regards to gaining install base and market exposure and more time for marketing and advertising in the region.
360 has had wo more extra Xmas periods than the PS3 in the UK.
Microsoft puts more time, effort and $$$ into advertising and marketing the 360 in the UK.

Off the top of my head.

Sony massively price-gouges in AUS, so I think they have a reputation over there for greed.

I think I answered this question pretty well (a post which is, of course, being conveniently ignored).

Why would the 360's strongest country/territory be one where it's not winning and is not even close to the Wii in sales?

All consoles have a failure rate and all consoles have a certain % of people who are disinterested after purchase for whatever reason. In addition to this they all have a product life-cycle. If the Xbox 360 is a year ahead on average then the people purchasing software are going to be a year ahead in terms of growing disinterest in purchasing new titles.

lol wait wha? How the hell did you come up with that theory? :D Growing disinterest for a certain product over a products life cycle is true. But it does not effect the new software. For example, disinterest for xbox360 can be argued as true by some, IF it has reached the maturity stage of the cycle or furthure down....but demand for new games should not be affected by it, simply because they are NEW products that has nothing o do with the other product cycles. Demand for MW2 will diminish as time goes but that has nothing to do with the platforms. That argument is flawed.

If you've already got Madden 2008, are most people really going to go out and buy Madden 2009 the next year? If you've already got a bunch of great titles and are still playing them are you going to be as likely to go out and look for new stuff to play, especially if you can borrow from your friends?

Tease.

You're telling me.  All three did in the beginning.  Microsoft no longer does really on console prices (at least not ridiculously) and Nintendo has started to play ball a bit.

But Sony is still a bitch at the moment.  For example, a Dual Shock three costs $US90 here.

Yes but Madden 2008 or 2009 has nothing to do with the console they are on. Consumers will not buy a product if they do not offer something new, improvements over the prior version (that validates a purchase), or desired (or pushed hard enough to create one by advertsiging). Madden games do not offer enough incentives for the users to buy a newer version. Buy for example UC2 offered a mch different and better experience than UC1 so people buy it. This has nothing to do with the console they are on tho. Two very different product life cycles.

I agree with you, 360's dominant country is very likely to be an underestimated one where they simply have xboxes for pirated games as software is expensive and rare in those places. My Malaysian housemate was telling me how no one buys the PS3 there because you can't get pirate games, no one buys real games in those countries. Only problem is that the Wii is equally as pirate-friendly so it may still win over the 360 there.
