from a first party point of view it has surpassed it easily. third parties on the other hand have gotten worse, most likely due to all these multiplate watered down games. third parties devs have been worse on all consoles IMO for example (RE5 not as good as 4, FF13 not as good as FF12 or FF10, DMC4 Much worse then DMC3, GTA4 much worse the GTA:SA, Star ocean LTH worse than SO3, Tekken 6 worse than tekken 5)

Personally, no. I feel that this whole generation has been just mostly polishing the last generation, instead of giving brand new ideas.
Take for example last gen. Games such as Halo, Fable, Devil May Cry, RE 4 and so on either made new genres, or radically altered what already existed. This gen has some great games, but it's mostly polish. Sure, Killzone 2 offers many, many improvements to it's predecessor, as does Heavy Rain, but there's nothing that hasn't been done before in some quantity.
I think the only game that really impressed me was Uncharted 1 & 2 how it made gaming feel like a film rather than a game, but other than that, I think the consoles need to start heading down the route of VR or risk the games stagnating.

No, the PS2 achieved what the PS2 did. In terms of games, the PS3's library is far, far inferior, with a long list of sequels that have failed to live up to their predecessors, and that's not even counting the new IPs.

No. You don't make a monster machine, then strip it down over time, and call that an achievement. That's going backwards. Plus losing most of the exclusive titles!!!

However I'm a proud owner of the 60gig PS3. They should STILL offer that unit plus the slim.

PS3 is still young though, and it has some great games, but PS2 was just a beast

It's nowhere near the numbers. PS3 is missing a second Tales game (and the first PS3 one wasn't localized), there are no Suikoden games, no SMT games, no Persona, no Wild Arms... this list goes on for a while. So it's not happening anytime soon...

They have done quite a job these past 2 years. First year left alot to be desired. But its a job they must continue to do to reach the ps2 work isnt done yet.
