Forums - Sony Discussion - The pressure of the trophy

You people need help...play games that don't have achievements or trophies and relearn what it was like in the past to play games for the "fun" of playing games. Not the supposed false reality "fun" of hunting for 100% in a game. You know what happens when that trophy dings?

I'll tell you, your brain sends dopamine into your system, dopamine is a reward chemical. Whenever a person accomplishes anything and recognizes that accomplishment dopamine is rewarded to make us feel good. The Trophy and Achievement system help reinforce the sense that you have "accomplished" something. Why is it so addicting? Take cocaine for an example. What happens when a line of yay goes up your nose? Dopamine is administered to the brain, this is the same concept except without a chemical to start the stimulation.

It's funny that strunge is in a sense correct, your brain chemicals are being altered and played with. Let go of the trophies and achievements I was number 2 in the VGC Gamerscore league last year, now I'm not even ranked there is hope...get help =P

The next games I'm going to get are Devil May Cry 4 & Eternal Sonata! So there is no danger of getting even mor addicted to trophies (I hope..)

Take a look at my photos on flickr

I don't mind trophies if they're reasonable (and fun) to achieve.
trying to slap 3000 enemies to death with a pocket protector for a few points or a bronze trophy just seems like a colossal waste of time and effort.
and I especially hate online based trophies.
but that's just me.

I love trophies. Completely meaningless, but you get a good feeling of achievement when you get a particularly hard one. I just got the Demon's souls platinum and it feels good, but I wouldn't skip a good game because it doesn't have trophies. Could you imagine missing out on Valkryia Chronicles or MGS4?
