Forums - Sales Discussion - Bold Prediction: Modnation Racer will be the best seller new IP this year.

Hell no. The PSP version will sell poorly and be pirated to high heaven. The PS3 version should do well though.

If its as good as Mario Kart then this is quite possible.

Very different audience on the PS3 vs. Wii/DS/etc.  No Mario/brand recognition/nostalgia factor.

Not a chance.

A chance at being as good?  Sure.  A chance at being a breakout hit and the lead new IP this year?

Ummm, no.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

I dunno I think it could do incredibly well ESPECIALY with 4 player split screen its going to become a VERY popular couch co-op game AND i think because the ps3 dosnt have any kart racers and kart racers are GREAT i think this game could do INCREDDIBLY well (i know IM going to buy it)

I'm pretty sure that Sonic All-Star Racing is a kart game for the PS3--- and it is selling like donkey's turds.  I think Sonic All-Star Racing also has 4-player co-op racing.  This game is also supposed to be a blast that parallels the fun seen in Mario Kart.  I'm not sure why it is selling so bad on 360 and PS3.

Modnation racers is going to have to do a much better job marketing than the Sonic kart game did.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Dont think 6 million will happen, only 2 games have ever passed that mark so far (PS3) and both are known almost every where around the world. Even one of the most famous games, COD4 couldnt make it to 6 million

I... don't consider MNR a new IP myself.

To me it's to LBP what Mario Kart was to Mario.

Would be a fair analogy if Mario Kart was made by a different developer and had different characters and didn't have "Mario" in the title. Otherwise, Modnation Racers is definitely a new IP (despite similar customization to LittleBigPlanet).

It's part of the "Create and Play" series though.  Which I feel is the IP.  MNR is a Sony owned game right or was I wrong on that?  I'm sure different developers handled mario kart then mario world.

Spec Ops will be imo... this won't post huge numbers.

I wouldn't really call a style of development or gameplay a whole IP. Modnation Racers is owned by Sony, but the developers are different. As for whether the Mario and Mario Kart games have different developers, I can't say for sure, but quick research showed that two games (Super Mario World and Mario Kart Wii) were both developed by Nintendo EAD (essentially Nintendo).

But no biggie.

If you count the P.S.P sales and the P.S.3 sales together then maybe. If you are only going to count the P.S.3 sales then no. Many other games may do better such as:

Alan Wake
Natal Games
Heavy Rain
Move Games
Vitality Sensor Games
FlingSmash
