I figured this would happen. It'd go the route of Warhawk. It'd have decent to good initial sales, but non-existent legs. The first group of buyers would form a very dedicated and very hardcore playerbase that would intimidate new users, stymieing future growth.

That's about what I think but I think it's actually going to eventually die off.

The difference between MAG and Warhawk is number of players.  I don't know how many players Warhawk is but MAG needs 512 players for a single game.  Ontop of that, there are three factions so that means you need at least 256 players per faction so that's 768 players.

But that isn't all, you need enough players for faction 1 vs faction 2, faction 2 vs faction 3, and faction 1 vs faction 3, meaning you'd really need at least 1024 players and would really need 1536 players.

Having a minimum of 1024 players online in a mediocre shooter is going to be harder and harder to do in a world where there are much better shooters that require much less effort.

Add to that the large barrier to entry and the fact new players are going to be absolutely murdered, there's really no way for this game to grow or at least grow enough to cover players leaving.

As I've said since the game was announced, it will probably start with bang, trickle off the radar, and then die.  Even with a hardcore player base, the game really just can't sustain itself or at least sustain itself and be played the way it was meant to be played.

I'm pretty positive the servers will be taken down long before the PS3 ends its life.

Eh you do know its 128 players on each side making it a total of 256 players needed for each game. Also the game has about 20k online at a time. Theres always about 8k playing domination, 8k playing sabatage and 4-5 k playing acquisition. I remember someone saying something a lot simular to what you said about Socom Confrontation last year and if you load that game up its still very active.

Also Sony will lower the games price or possibley re-release it in there platnum hits titles if the games online community drops and theres future DLC that will bring players back especially if they release another faction to play with as which is a big possibility.

Meh, 128 per side then, that just means it will take a little longer to die off.

The end result is still going to be the same.  This time next year lets look at how many people are still playing MAG.  I don't think it will be dead by then but I would be willing to bet it will be completely dead within 2-3 years.

Well Twestern in 2-3 years a game like Mag won't matter because the PS3 would have at least 5-6 other Exclusive FPS and TPS games with online gameplay that people have moved onto. Who knows maybe a Mag 2 could be one of them. Don't hate on games you havn't played or know nothing about. It says a lot about you.

for some unknown reason, the 1st page of this thread doesn't show for me so I have no idea what the tc is talking about ^_^

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I say fucking failure advertisement for such a great unique game, should sell at least 1.2M by now!!!

Advertise its unique feature!!!!

MAG is a 256 players online FPS then advertise it like a 256 players FPS,not just a normal 32 FPS,and the screenshots + the boxart are all much shitty than BAD COMPANY 2.

Why every US FPS boxart is so amazing, and this one got a very shitty boxart and very bad screenshots.

BOTH BOXARTs and SCREENSHOTS are part of the advertisement nowadays.

Create a lot of beautiful in-game screenshots and let others to copy them like crazy forget about copylaw now,'cause it's a free advertisement also,f*ck they just don't understand how cheap and effective this advertising way is.

Game review is not very efficient as screenshots!!!!!!!!!!!!

did anyone expect it to sell a zillion?

But again considering the holding cost,0.72M is already too much, hehe.

I think 2M sales will kill the servers, why don't they sell this game 29.99 per copy then charge a little and only free to full price customers.

The game will probably ship 1 million LT. I dont see it as a failure at all, especially because the game is MP only. Also they just announced SOCOM4, and klets be honest, we all know which one is the bigger project for Zipper. IMO this was more like a test game to create a game engine and test out some server capacities. Either way this game will most definatly make a profit, and probably help a lot to fund SOCOM4, not even taking into consideration just how much Zipper had learned about the PS3
