Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So I finally beat Galaxy

I beat Bowser and I now have 85 stars. It is definitely one of the best video games of all time, but it does have a few flaws. Exactly as NintendoTogepi said, controlling the camera is difficult and sometimes you can't control it at all, which makes it hard for you to look around. The water levels are also annoying to control and some levels are really harder than others. Some of the purple coin challenges are annoying, but other than that, this game is an absolute masterpiece! This game so far gets a 10/10 for me.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

So was it as "inhumanly hard" as LttP and SMB3?

... >=D

About equal. I'm not good at games, I admit it. But Galaxy is only inhumanly hard for about 5-15 late stars, while ALttP becomes impossible around the second dungeon boss for me and SMB3 becomes too hard during the later parts of World 5 and every time after.

I'm telling you, get some bottles!  :P

I also thought the underwater areas in Galaxy were frustrating.  The shell swimming was fun, but when you don't have a shell, it's too difficult to see where you're going because the camera doesn't want to behave.

I got 60 stars, and I'm at 14 hours. I getting sick of the game already. It's taking me to long to get to the good stuff. I'm thinking about speed rushing it Rolstoppable-style, because I'm sick off waiting.

I got 120 stars in nearly exactly 20 hours.

For me, the game was too easy and I would have liked more open-ended, non-linear sections. I'm doing Luigi now, but I'm not really motivated since the game is still too fresh in my mind, and just having a character who's harder to control isn't enough of a difference to make it interesting for me : (.

I really hate the fact that half the Hidden Stars are simply bride luma's for a new path. I think the hidden stars were meant to please people like me who like to explore yet still make it so one can't get lost since the game tells you the path you have to choose in order to undertake earning the hidden star. Nonetheless, I feel like I was cheated out of half of the implementation of great idea to satisfy the explorer/discoverer inside me. What's hidden about bribing a Luma?

There's other tidbits of hidden 1-up mushrooms to find, and there are of course challenging 1-up mushrooms to get during many of the already more difficult sections (presumably to help make you never get game-over), but you can't feel as much satisfaction getting these since they won't even save : (.

Overall, the game was still incredibly fun, and a the new mechanics were extremely enjoyable. Many of the level designs were extremely entertaining the pacing of the constantly introducing new enemies, obstactles, power-ups, gravity interactions, and the like was excellent.

@Camera control complaint: you can almost always look in first person after coming to a complete stop by pressing D-pad Up. It works even if you can't actually swing the camera.

I found a trick by accident that makes beating Kamek (I always thought Kamek was male ...) really easily: Look at the color the wand sparks before she shoots (green is turtleshell, red, fire).  You can grab a turtle shell out of the Green shot by spin attacking when it gets near you.  It doesn't even need to have actually turned into a shell first.

Ohh, I HATE you all!! :((

On the day it is released here (in Ausland) , I'll be flying interstate for a week - no Wii! And by the time I get back... the game will probably be sold out.

At least when I get back, I'll have all the time in the world to play it...

I clocked at about 25-30 hours for all 120 stars...

green galaxies stars are the most demanding and difficult in the game.

I always thought Kamella* =/= Kamek. "Kamek" is just the Japanese name for Magikoopa anyway.

* That's the boss in Galaxy.

As for Galaxy's most difficult stars... The Sinking Lava Spire Daredevil Run, Luigi's Purple Coins, A Very Sticky Situation, Buldergeist Daredevil Run and Battlestation's Purple Coins were the ones that stood out to me.

I didn't like the Trial Galaxies; I recon the most 'difficult' levels in a platformer should be platforming goodness. Oh well, there's always the Bowser levels...

Bleh I want this game.
