Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS announcement “clashes” with DSi XL, says analyst

The Gameboy Advance sold over 5 Million units in 2006 even though the Nintendo DS launched in 2004 and the DS Lite was available in 2005 ... The announcement of the 3DS launching in the next 12 months will have little effect on people who were thinking of buying a DS-XL today; and it probably won't have a major impact on DS sales until it launches.

Analysts are stupid, Nintendo isn't (when it comes to makin' money). Sempuukyaku said it first, the small percentage of people that wanted an XL that actually heard about the 3DS news and then decided to not buy an XL is miniscule.

The DSi XL is really to attract late adopters in, not as an upgrade item for previous DS owners. Late adopters will not be concerned about 3DS because they don't usually buy an item when it first comes out anyways.

You guys are missing the point of the DSi XL.....it was made with seniors in mind.

Who in their right mind would by a bigger DSi without a reason like poor eyesight etc.

Well, I would. I don't have a DSi, nor a DS Lite for that matter. I only have the original NTR DS that I purchased back in 2004. So the DSi XL would be a very nice upgrade for me.

Lord knows it stopped me from getting the XL. I can wait for the 3DS. Though I doubt the 3DS will have the same size screens. So it's still tempting to play a DS with those large screens.

Nintendo of Japan dosn't really care about Nintendo of America, their independant in the sense of releases and announcements so when Nintendo of Japan 'announced' the 3DS they didn't bother pushing back even if the XL was just releasing in America.

Yeah, I really don't see the conflict on this one. DSi XL always seemed more about selling a second system to people that would like a larger screen. Any potential hardware sale losses (not that they're losses since the people will be buying another Nintendo system instead) should be pretty minimal.

Lf course, it's quite possible that when Nintendo shows off the 3DS, it could stink and cause people to run right out and get DSi XL's!

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I agree that it was annouced at a bad time. I was looking forward to the DSi XL but now I think I will wait until the 3DS is released next year.

I am in the same boat. I think I will wait for the 3DS next year as well.

I don't think it'll damage XL sales too much, because only a fraction of the target group (those who read news sites) knows of the 3DS announcement.
But it would have been awesome if they announced the 3DS at E3 with a big bang.

I wonder if there'll be a 3DS XL in a few years... ;)

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

if the announcement and imminent release of the DS XL hardly affected the sales of the DS light and DSi I don't really see the announcement of a far off successor with no release date no firm technical specs will affect the sales of the XL that much tbh.
