Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why so many B:BC 2, Killzone 2 and JRPG fanboys hate Modern Warfare 2?

MW2 was inevitably going to be hated no matter how great it was. It's the nature of popular games.

Just look at Battlefield Company 2. Yeah, it gets almost complete praise right now, but that's because it's the breakout title for the series (or the one that really brings it into popularity). Give it a couple more iterations, and it will be getting piles of hate as well. Although, it might not, since it's not nearly popular enough. We'll see.

I don't think it'll get massive piles of hate (at least not as much as Call of Duty) until one of those iterations get an aggregate score thats higher than other rival/high quality FPS' (like Halo/CoD). I could be wrong here but i don't really remember anyone hating on the CoD franchise until the acclaimed Modern Warfare was released and everybody fell in love with it.

How technical is your game?

i dont like modern warfare 2 because it feels like an inferior version of the first modern warfare.

For those that say games with many iterations just get unwarranted hate, look at the Total War series. 6 games with usually 2 or more expansion per game, and the praise the series gets still, both from fans and critics.

Devs like Creative Assembly or DICE are consistent and make good games, because they are given freedom and good treatment from their bosses, as opposed to other devs who are pressured and suffocated by an asshole CEO who will rather take the fun out of video games.

COD4 was awesome, BFBC1 was shit, MW2 is shit, BFBC2 is awesome

MW2 is overrated so much its not even funny.. KZ2 doesn't beat it IMO (atleast not fun/control wise) but it is REALLY selling to well

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

Me thinks there is a sweeping generalisation here :)
I have BF:BC2 and i think it is better than mw2, but i think killzone 2 is average i.e. a 7/10

I played all three a decent amount. Currently own 2/3. Killzone 2 and MW2.

Killzone is just beyond dull, the game just lacks a lot of key elements for me to like it, a mix of controller, maps, characters and overall fun factor.

Battlefield:BC 2on the other hand is just a better game than MW2.... but not better than COD4. The reasons why Battlefield is better is simply put that teamwork is vital, and it brings better maps, playing atmosphere and fixes a lot of problems that MW2 has.

The problems with MW2 is that it has so many issues with actually being able to play the game perfectly, that you just end up hating it. Also the maps aren't as great as the first.

Killstreak also makes it really pro friendly (what do I care, I am pretty good at the game).

Exactly what kind of game needs to have the makers produce an ad to get its players to buy it?  The ad says that MW2 players are now suffering from a disorder known as "Mapathy" and the only cure is the Stimulus package.  They even have a faux doctor in the ad showing players affected by this.  And yes, the Stimulus package happens to feature 2 out of the 5 maps being from Call of Duty 4.  How exactly does Mapathy get cured by having 40% of your maps be from a PRIOR version of the game?  Well, it was interesting to see a scene out of the ad that looks like it is from The Blind Side.

not to mention it's 15 bucks USD, which translates directly into BULLSHIT.

I didn't want to say the price, because I was concerned I would get it wrong.  But yes, combine that price with the how little is there, and you can see why they produced this ad.  Activision has to now convert its fan base it has a disease/disorder regarding their game, that they have to spend money on to fix.  Even you had Microsoft pitching the expansion pack, as if it is needed.

Lol, Battlefield getting their asses kicked? Try playing in a game with no glitching, hacking, n00b t00bing, kills streaks, deaths streaks, but a real emphasis on team work, Destruction 2.0, properly manned vehicles, and skill.

Yes, i always hear people saying ''MW2 sucks, its for n00bs, no skill im gettin BBC2'' and yet they return to MW2 and still get their ass kicked.

Also, BBC:2 has probably the worst campaign i've ever played in a FPS game

how so? because of the better graphics, more kill streaks, better death strikes, better maps, better weapons ( Akimbo FTW!!!! ) and added Special Ops mode?
