That was before some guy publicly announced that he could hack the PS3 GameOS by going through OtherOS.

Be realistic guys.

This really should have been the end of the thread right here, but apparently some of you have trouble being realistic about these kinds of promises and instead want Sony to allow their console to be hackable just to keep the word of what one of their employees said.

They've seen what can happen to an easily hacked platform with the PSP, they'd have to be idiots to let it happen again just so that they can keep a bunch of ornery people on the internet happy.

If you really feel the need to bitch at someone go right ahead and find the email address of the hacker.

there is an EASY hack for the PS3?

Should they wait and find out ?

Then they shouldn't have included the other OS option in the first place if this was a fear, wasnt a big leap to know this was a way in.

Anyway like I said, I couldn't give a toss either way,  unlike others here I always thought his was a 'meh' feature, and hey presto now everyone seems to think it is a 'meh' feature.. strange that.  Mikeb is yet to report though.. so lets wait and see his spin on this.  Mikeb really liked this and was one of the reasons "tech enthusiasts" flocked to the PS3 in his opinion.

LOL! I don't think anyone here thought it wasn't a 'meh' feature. You people in this thread are really something else. Killzone 2 all over again.

Like the OS was a very necessary feature for the 33m ppl who bought a ps3, now watch how ppl starts acting like the OS feature was a big deal when b4 they didn't even give a rats about the damn thing all to to have some negative for the big bad SONY.

Looks like I will be putting my fat PS3 into storage then and get that Slim I've been considering for a while now.

Stop crying damage control saying this isn't a big feature by the way guys.  I'm sick of hearing people throw this feature in peoples faces over the last few years as Sony being somehow benevolent with their hardware by having it.  They've officially lied in the public domain, nobody should be saying this is a good thing for any company to do and most of you would definately crucify Microsoft for doing the same.

I'd like to see the posts that the people " throw this feature in peoples faces over the last few years as Sony being somehow benevolent with their hardware by having it"

Try looking back then because I certainly cannot be bothered to educate you, even if I posted a 1000 posts to backup my point you would be in denial given the rest of your posts in this thread.  How about you do us both a favour and just don't quote me again, I've debated with you before and all you do is attempt to annoy people.

He isn't in this thread which were the people you were implying.

No matter what a company says they will react to anything like the recent hacking activity around that feature. You can see it as lies but its simply responding to the market. Every major company will have done something like this relevant to their market.

Sony are no Angel's with their rootkit snafus and the like, so I'm not defending them blindly, but in this case it's a legitimate response and has clearly been forced from the outside rather by their own choice.

Put simply, if no-one was trying to hack using that avenue, they wouldn't be removing it.

So if you're annoyed, email the hackers and ask them to lay off - which they won't, sadly. So the feature is going to go.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

you're paranoid... I wasn't implying anything... and if you read my posts properly (without that paranoia) you would see I dont give a rats arse about the feature being there or not. I never have.  Now back off.

Read the blackened part. No paranoia. Just you trying to weasle your way out of something silly you said.

Once again lets just get one thing clear. The hack that everyone refers to doesn't allow piracy and never will, it is just a gateway for more options to be explored. Even if it did open up other options there are a limited number of people in the population capable of doing this hack, they need to find another backdoor method for it to be a mainstream possibility.

Having thought about it more I doubt this update would actually prevent anything. I'm pretty sure you could regress back to an early firmware by replacing the harddrive if you kept a copy of the last update, thus meaning any fat PS3 could be returned to a "hackable" state again in the future.

If the above is true then I'm not really sure why they're doing this after all?

It's there, stop being lazy and search.

This is crazy people, I bought a PS3 to play PS3 games, If I want to play PS2 games I still have my PS2 and most likley most other people do to. If this is going to make the network and your PS3 more tough to crack then so be it. Sony is doing this for the better, Its not like they launched the PS3 and said , well we are going to have this problem, Oh well , we will launch anyway and just take it away for fun, The PS3 has been out for a few years now, with Security problems on the rise, this is a smart move for everyone. Who said many gamers aren't pre-modonas . RELAX

"here" as in VGC not "here" as in this thread.

anyway I'm done with this thread and your typically aggressive approach.

Even so. Everyone always thought it was a 'meh' feature. You are generalizing everyone because of one user. LOL! Just like when everyone said everyone thought the Ps3 would outsell the Wii because of leo-j and a now banned user that was a troll account. So should I start saying every 360 user thinks Halo sucks because one memeber said they are already bored with reach? No because thats just stupid. I don't know why almost every 360 user (There are 2 in this thread alone) on this website needs to generalize all Ps3 users because of a few extreamists.
