I'll recommend Ah! My Goddess, the more recent series, given that it post-dates 2000 and retains a lot of Shonen elements, but is ultimately a romance anime, and one of a very short list of romance anime i've ever enjoyed at all, mostly because of how crystalized and tame the main relationship is.
Also Urd. Urd is the best thing to happen to anime women since Nico Robin, and considering she predates Nico Robin considerably, i don't knwo what that means :P
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
GTO! I'm surprised that many people don't know what it is, yet it's sold millions of copies. It's about and ex-gang member who becomes a teacher to get girlfriends, but he gets stuck teaching middle schoolers who notoriously hate their teachers. Also, the principal doesn't like him because he caught him trying to look up skirts. He somehow gets into all sorts of problems like kidnapping, fighting Yakuza, and recusing people. Well, except for the time where he pretended he was Doraemon and let his students get mugged. After this he made everyone bungee jump off a bridge and scared away the muggers!

Speaking of GTO, there's a sequel for it called GTO: Shonan 14 Days. Though the manga is still ongoing so it might take a while for it to be animated. But at least there's something we can look forward to. =P

Finished Monster. So-so ending, feeling a bit mixed about it.
Watched the first episodes of Vampire Knight (Free on PSN) and Genshiken. Vampire Knight was a bit groan inducing but I will probably end up watching it anyway. Genshiken on the other hand was exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait to watch the rest of it.
After I finish those two I will move on to the first 12 episode of House of Five Leaves and then something else.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
