NHK is incredibly depressing, good, but incredibly depressing, and the Girl Who Leapt Through time was a great concept up until halfway through when the story completely jumped the shark (which i didn't know you could do in a single movie, but there it is). Paranoia Agent is one of those fun-creepy ones, so i'd second a recommendation there.

@signalstar - It's funny to watch people post their favorite anime without reading your criteria. ^_^

I'd throw Great Teacher Onizuka out there. It's my favorite comedy and I think you'd enjoy it.

Trigun is also another recommendation for a comedy.

You don't want mecha, but Code Geass is my favorite all time (but has mechs).

Berserk is pretty good. It's a dark anime, and the manga is VERY dark. If you like Dark Fantasy Berserk will most defiantly be your cup of tea.

Need this thread to be in my recent history for easy access. Almost done with Monster for those who care.

-if you're planning on watching Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, you can try to solve the mystery even though the anime doesn't have as much clues as the Sound Novel.

 -Slayers Revolution and Evolution-R if you want a good dose of humor.

For manga:

-Chrono Crusade (especially since Rosette is on par with Chrono on awesomeness)

-The World God Only  Knows - really funny and parodies several games.

What do you think (Please tell me without spoilers) since I would like to support the company by buying the volumes instead.

Honestly I think its a fine anime. 74 episode is a little longer than I expected and longer than it needs to be. When its good it is really good (especially the begining). No gripes with the animation from me. The thing is too many characters are eventually introduced that kind of muddle the story. The action is exciting and some of the supporting cast have cool things about them. I would five the series a 7 out of 10 from what I've seen.

If you like shonen, then you should watch One Piece. Its one of the best imo.
