Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS, why so soon?

All I can say is, it is about time Nintendo got aggressive.
For as long as I've known them, they just bend over and take things. Now it is time to start dishing it out.

I would just like to say that I was expecting a new handheld soon for the last couple of months lol. And that Fiscal year 2011 actually ends in march 2011 so basically the 3DS could be out from E3 and next March so expect it to be out in time for xmas at least in japan and possibly even worldwide.

Rumor: Sony to release PlayStation phone in 2010

by Jeremy Hill on Mar 4, 2010 at 05:24 PM

This is a story we’ve heard about for a long time. Of course we would all love to see a phone capable to taking full advantage of the PlayStation Network but until now we had given up on the thought.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sony will release a new smartphone in 2010 that will rival the iPhone. The phone is said to be made by Sony Ericsson. It will be capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games.

In addition to that, WSJ also says Sony is working on a product that is a hybrid between an e-reader, PSP and netbook. It would be a competitor to Apple’s upcoming iPad device.

This story follows reports of Sony looking to unite the PlayStation Network through a number of devices that use a single user ID. The Sony Online service would be spread out across MP3 players, eBook readers, televisions and other devices. A smartphone would certainly cover most of those bases. It would also be a way for Sony to monetize the PlayStation Network which is something the company has expressed interest in. Perhaps instead of Sony directly charging to access the network, it will take a cut from wireless providers every month.

how so, already there is an article that the Iphone is stealing market share from sony, which is a Smart phone, and since it could play Playstation Game's it will still be a handheld. the PSPGo and Regular PSP will still be there.

^^
Considering that as far as we know Nintendo has no plans to enter the smartphone market, this one of Sony looks like a pre-emptive attack against Apple and, maybe, Nokia.

I honestly believe it's because SONY announced 3d gaming for PS3, 3D would have put them completely up there in innovation, and people would have gone nuts for a gaming machine that displays 3d..

I know nintendo isn't stupid, and said "we can't let them take that market before we get to it" so there you go, 3DS! Just a theory though..

btw.. I noticed that you need a 3D BLU RAY PLAYER to get 3d movies, and most of them are $350+ the PS3 is going to be one that plays 3d blu rays and 3d games, so I guess that's another plus for those interested in a 3d HD experience.
