Forums - Sony Discussion - 3 Games that can show what the PS3 can do

By the way, I have a question for those who state that the 360 can do as much as the PS3. Are you guys comparing the GPU's? Because those are about the same for both consoles. But the CPU's for both consoles are different. The Cell Processor can do at least 50 more GFLOPS than the 360's processor.

So what? All they use it for is nifty graphical work, which stuff which can be accomplished by a GPU. Also everyone ought to know the Xbox 360 GPU is more efficient so it can run these nifty cell-esque programs in the shaders whilst the texture units are busy. Oh and the GPUs aren't exactly equal, the RSX which is based off the G70 has really shown its age over the past few years, its hardly what I would call an efficiency monster anyway.

Nifty graphical work? How about also having an incredible amount of polygons and having a dynamic environment that is more kinetic than anything we've ever seen all because the Cell can process so many multiple things at one time. By the way, if the processor is powerful enough, you wouldn't need a good graphics card anyway. Because the processor could handle all that load on it. The 360 does have a slightly better GPU, and I'm still waiting for games to fully utilize its potential popup. Lets see what Alan Wake has to offer. Anyway, if the 360's GPU is powerful enough to be able to handle such incredible loads, which I'm sure it isn't but is pretty close, then where are the games that utilize its power?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Here I'll spell it out for you worst case scenario even.

PS3 uber game runs @ 720P

Xbox 360 runs said game @ 25% lower resolution which proportionally frees up 25% of the shader performance, which is ~70Gflops worth.

Xbox 360 can run said uber game, but just at a lower resolution.

Thus your 50Gflops deficit are accounted for and the Xbox 360 can run said game.

Tease.

You know what's weird? This thread was trolled on the VERY FIRST REPLY. The XBox360 thread still hasn't been trolled. And I thought PS3 fanboys were supposed to be the worst?

I posted this here because I don't want to derail the XBox360 thread, and this thread has already gone to hell.

But to reply to the OP: I think Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 are 3 of the best looking console games so far, and show that if you can work with the PS3, it's capable of some amazing visuals.

This thread needs more Flower... It convinced me that the ps3 ALREADY has fantastic motion controls...

Dude, you just proved my point. I wasn't trying to say that the 360 can't play those games, but rather it can't play those games at the same level of scale. You would have to water down the super-uber game for it to work on the 360.

My 3 games are God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2. I dont believe any of these games can be done on any other console. What are your 3 games?

Yes I agree.

Stop moaning about the game, if you don't like the game shut up and make our own game.

Nope. I said worst case scenario, the reality is infact somewhere between the two. Until multiplatform games show any advantage, let alone a decisive advantage for the PS3 in terms of frame-rates/visual effects the verdict remains that they are about the same computationally. Besides this every game is watered down to some extent, even exclusives relative to what my PC is capable of so im not sure why some marginal difference needs to be over-exagerated.

Tease.

Yes, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Guerilla did awesome jobs. Would them be able to do the same on Xbox 360? We will never know.

By the way, Heavy Rain is another visually impressive PS3 game.
