US holiday wishlist for 2007, according to Solutions Research Group (SRG) for Digital Life America:

1) HDTV
2) Laptop
3) Digital Camera
4) Desktop computer
5) Car GPS system
6) New Cell phone
7) Video Camera
8) Nintendo Wii
9) PS3
10) Blu-Ray or HD DVD player

Apple Laptop just missed the top 10 at 11th spot, so maybe Laptop should be number 1 if combined. The PS3 was higher on the list than the Wii regarding men, but women preffered the Wii so overall according to the survey the Wii is more desirable for christmas.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I know for a sure that this is not a sample size of normal America if a car GPS is number 5 for the most desirable product

It's worth to mention our figures for x360 were off last month (an extra 50k a week). Ioi decided to stay with own numbers. The gap between X360 and PS3 is much smaller. If Vgchartz is off once again I think it will be necessary to adjust the numbers to stay credible.

@ eugene

did you take into account xbox's and gamecubes numbers in which xbox has shipped 16.42 million in america and 7.81 in europe and 0.53 in japan which means 16.42

No need, the original XBox wasn't very popular outside North America. The PS2 was popular everywhere and dwarfs the other console sales. It makes no difference overall. The US market isn't bigger than PAL regions and Japan combined (Taking out of account much of the World), not by a long shot.

@MikeB

I mean the one regarding what Infinity Ward said about CoD4 :) Sorry for the confusion though :)

I think you missed the point re. the markets again. I think he's talking about the market as a whole, not just hardware. Check my previous post again :)

calc.exe

US share of sales, total hardware current gen (no PS2):

Wii: 44%
X360: 64%
PS3: 41%
Total share consoles: 51%

DS:30%
PSP:38%
Total share handhelds: 32%

Total share consoles+handhelds: 38%

(if I did them correctly, and using the numbers on the front page)

Last generation and this generation are different. Microsoft is trying to expand its reach. Before Microsoft would never have published games like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Scene it, and Viva Pinata. Things take time.

US shares this week (again no PS2):

Wii: 60%
X360: 69%
PS3: 39%
Total consoles: 57%

DS: 33%
PSP: 40%
Total handhelds: 35%

Total consoles + handhelds: 47%

As a whole it would be incorrect as well. The EU + other European countries such as Russia is bigger than the US market. China alone will likely top the US within a couple of decades. Other emerging markets include India and Brazil (probably included in the Americas data).

More related to video console, an interesing read:
