Okay, I'm having some trouble. I just rented the game not long ago, and I'd like to complete more than 2 quests before my rental expires. Yeah it's pathetic. But I'm stuck. I'm near the beginning, at the part where I need to get some iron ore for the dude in the village, I think he's the blacksmith. I have my pickaxe, I go to area 4, the cave, and I think I've found the place where I need to dig (the small circular room with cats in it). But when I go there and the dig symbol pops up, there is a big red X across the symbol, and I can't use the pickaxe. I bought a different pickaxe, same problem. I have no idea how to make it so I can use the pickaxe, and it's been annoying me for days. Can anyone help me?

Just make sure you have a pickaxe (old, iron, or mega [the best]) in your item pouch

Go find whatever piece of rock you find, go near. If you have a pickaxe in your item pouch, it will show the icon with a number. Then press A and you'll begin to mine. If you bought your pickaxe but if it's still in your safe, it won't work, make sure you have not bought something and directly sent it to your safe : At the shop, you can 'buy' or 'buy, and send to box'. If you've done the latter, that should explain why it isn't in your item pouch. Also if you bought old pickaxe, it will break very quickly, so buy as much as u can.

Good luck, it's sometime a bit frustrating coz there's so much to prepare before actually beginning a quest, it might be a bit overwhelming for a start.

Are you using the torch at the time? If so, and you're using the classic controller, press r1 and the a button to use the pickaxe.

I got 50 defeats on Rathalos, Rathian, Lagiacrus, Royal Ludroth, Agnaktor, and 100 defeats on Great Jaggi. I need to start on Alatreon again to get the 3 skypiercers to get Alatreon Revolution (GS).
