It's really the monsters are faster, so if you died odd's are it was a combo breaker.

Ok, so i played for a week without going near the gun.

My reaction is meh. Destroys the brawler aspect of the gameplay.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Well, the one who put up the tier list said it was for single player, which only makes sense. And of course they're judged based on DPS, how else would people rate them? It's only natural that people figure out the most efficient way of doing things in games like these, especially those who put so many hours into it.

Getting boring grinding HR, can't upgrade my weapon until upper rank, so it feels like I'm going nowhere. Time to try out different weapons now, I suppose... SA up first!

Cord, I did answer that already, the tier list be it for offline doesnt bother to calculate (and can't) the effectiveness of the weapon. Just how comfy a person is when killing a target the fastest.

Example is I could say I have the highest offline dps in the game using the mid BG, on adrenaline I can and have 2 hit killed a great jaggi.

Does that make BG the top tier? I mean anyone can aim at the head and pull the trigger.

It's just a matter of the individuals ability and its sad someone wants to cast their ideals as a fact in some abominable inequality chart.

Each weapon is as good as you make it, when it comes down to it.

(As for the BG example my team mate who uses Ala long sword max with adrenaline on full swipes takes 7 hits to down the Great Jaggi and 6 hits with his dancing hell fire.) That doesn't mean I have a better weapon or he has a better weapon.

the best offline weapon is a skilled LS player (bowgun for Los,) not the lance at all, I can take everything down faster than other weapons with LS, you can't rock LS damage in Tri, it's not possible once your power slash is maxed.

those 6-7 hits can be performed extremely fast though =P LS is OP in Tri imo, it's so good lol, and it's extra good if you have a good hammer user and gunner on the side.

Huh, despite the fact that i've now grown to prefer the Lance for most things i've tried so far (though for some reason i still feel more comfortable with swordn'shield on Great Jaggi), i would put it much further down a tier list, though as you said that list was made for blocking, i would tier things based on a damage vs. agility ratio, and thus put Lance much further down.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

You either have the highest offline dps in the game with a mid BG, or you don't. If Great Jaggis are 2 hit killed by the mid BG, then it very well may be the top tier weapon, for that particular boss anyway.

"...anyone can aim at the head and pull the trigger." - This has no relevance to tier lists, which are not used to show what weapon is best for each individual. If the Lance or Long Sword is top tier, it does not mean they would be the weapons you'd be best with. It simply tells us what weapon has the most potential.

I may be a noob at Monster Hunter (with 60 hours so far!), so I won't pretend to know what order these weapons would be placed in a tier list, or how big the gap between each weapon would be (in potential). The tiers do exist, though, as they do in every game - whether it be shooting games (best guns), fighting games (best characters), RPG's (best anything), etc.

Implying otherwise means you think the weapons are perfectly balanced, which is obviously never the case.

Of course, for a game like MH (online), it's much tougher to "calculate" usefulness of each weapon, as their value changes based on the team composition.

On another note, is it always visible when a monster is weak? I've accidentally killed the target in capture quests one too many times, because I never saw it limp. It seems like there's a common area the monster will retreat to when it's weak. Do I just have to guess (trap) if they're already in that area when they become weakened?

Tempted to build a perception set just to be safe, I'm always paranoid in capture quests online (harder to judge with others since I don't quite know how much damage they're putting out).

@c0rd

You can think whatever you want to think in the end, if it's fun for you to have a list then go ahead.

I like a few others here have seen lists like these come and go, they come from the same place and go to the same place; the garbage.

It's always funny when someone comes out thinking their Lance is saving the day and my teamy switches from lance to LS we do the same run and end it 5 minutes faster.

Is it because LS is better? No it's because my teammate is better with LS. Does that mean that he's better than the Lancer as a player, indeed he never took a hit when he was using his Lance the other dude forced me to use a healing shot on him.

Lol, SnS though =P

Also could you please not tell me what I'm thinking I haven't told you what your thinking and I don't see how you would know or could take a guess at what I'm thinking.

The monster let's out a wierd pain call at a certain point, interrupt it and it's goes exhausted.

Typically followed by drooling, basically if it's drooling and will fall over it's probably ready.

The the regular Great Sword much better than the Switch Ax GS? ive tried both and i perfer the latter since its much faster and i love the elemental discharge move, but i wonder if the GS has any unseen advantages. I know you can charge it up, but if thats all then id rater stick with the SA.

Btw, can anyone point me in the right direction to kill the Royal Luthroth (sp?). Ive tried him online, but if it wasnt for my team mate i wouldnt have ever killed him. Need some pointers.
