is there any way to get a barroth shell without killing it?

I need 2 to upgrade my weapon, but when I killed him (with pretty much everyone helping me and I only healing) I just got one.

Screw my bad luck

^^ Well you can capture it (yields more rewards)...otherwise i'd say no

The probability of getting a barroth shell is higher, if you kill it.

Carving Probability: 84.25 %

Capture Probability: 11.64 % (with Capture Expert 16.94%)

Guess you're right, but, where di u get those figures from? Wiki has it different and all. Although I really dunno how accurate those figures are. I've gotten a lot more shells in one set of quest rewards than the 6% they suggest. And that's without breaking his claws

phantom uragaan is mad easy. Hope to see you guys tonight. I already made a room if you would like to join me.

This game loves to torment me. I'm desperately seeking a Wyvern stone for the Shadow Javelin, and have been spamming Pecco again for that purpose. In one quest, Jaggi appeared right after Pecco fell, so we together attacked the Jaggi and managed to wound its head in the minute before transport back. What do i get? No wyvern stone, but a bird wyvern gem, for something we didn't even do in the damned quest...

So close, but so far...

I get the numbers from this FAQ:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/943655-monster-hunter-tri/faqs/60570

The FAQ only compares the probability between capturing and killing. It's a great way to decide how to get the items you want from the monster.

@Mr Khan: The chances getting a wyvern stone are higher, if you catch the Peco. (Don't know if you already knew this?) You can check the numbers, if you check out the Link above.

I think I got a bunch of Uru Scutes from the Phantom Uru quest, you should probably try that. Plus it's easier than normal Uru online anyway :P For some reason he's easy offline, but tough online.

Are you teasing me? (Still 4 weeks ...)

But hey I forgive you. Without your hint a few pages ago I wouldn't have an armor combination with Sharpness plus 1. (Without the bad side-effects from the Selene armor) It feels good to have a LS with white sharpness.

lol, after 130 hours or something I've finally made my first long sword - Wyvern Blade "Fire" Tried it out with Rathian with one of my MH friends. Seems pretty good although I need to get better at it. It doesn't seem very safe...but then again I use hammer which isn't much safer. Just gotta get used to it.

Also I've been neglecting SAs...gonna make a Bolt Axe tomorrow. Also need to finish my Uru set so I don't have to feat fire attacks...Defense M on it looks solid too. Would make Los armor but I don't have a plate...

Fire against a rathian is not the best choice. Maybe you should finish the offline mode to get a better suited weapon.

Getting the rathalos plate took ages for me. I can give you a little hint. There are two offline only missions, which have a slightly higher chance to give you a plate. The alternative is to wait for the high ranked rathalos, who has also a sligthly higher chance to give you a plate. BTW I got 3 plates on one day (doing one of the offline missions 2 times and maximizing my chances).

lol, well I got a couple from that. Guess the desire sensor isn't working in your favor.

Btw, I don't use fire against Rath (I use Vodyvanoy or Acrus Lance). But I just got the wep so I wanted to try it out even if it was during Rath. I don't think I'm gonna be able to make many new great weapons from finishing offline btw. I think I'll just upgrade and make what I can, or fight a few battles for some items. I'll have to finish offline for gemming purposes though I guess.

As for my future armor, don't think I'm gonna make Los. I'm looking into making Agnaktor Plus once I reach HR (I'm 28 right now) for my lancing. Some of Helios when I get further in offline possibly. Vangis in the farish future. I just need to make the mail for my Uragaan set also.

I didn't suggest to finish offline for materials. You will get a free LS for finishing offline. And it should be better suited for a rath fight.

Oh, yeah. I'll get that later but for now my hammer and lance are pretty good for Rath/Los. Although I'd like to start using LS more.

I started as a S'n'S user. I think I've beaten all offline monsters with S'n'S first. Later I tried the hammer. But I only use it for the elder dragons now. I think the other monsters are either too fast or I am too slow using a hammer. But lately I switched to Longswords. My best one is the Shadow Binder (G) (RAR 5). I like it, that you can "level up" the LS during the fight.

That's a pretty sweet faq. Thanks.
